Under the supervision of the Women, Infants, Children (WIC) Breastfeeding Coordinator, provides basic information, encouragement, and support for breastfeeding to pregnant and postpartum women and their families. Makes appropriate referrals per Ohio and local WIC policies. Assists with the breastfeeding activities of the Cuyahoga County WIC Program (CCWP). Upholds the mission, vision, STAR-IQ values, and customer service standards of The MetroHealth System and WIC.Qualifications:
Required:
HS Diploma or passage of a high school equivalency exam. Personal experience breastfeeding or providing own breast milk to at least one baby (does not have to be currently breastfeeding). Familiar with WIC. Can relate with WICs target population, and, to the extent possible, representing the same racial/ethic background as the families supported. Ability to make out-going and receive in-coming phone calls beyond assigned shifts as needed. Ability to accept assignment(s) at any WIC office in Cuyahoga County. Ability to communicate effectively in English, orally and in writing. Ability to be available to WIC participants outside usual clinic hours or the WIC environment. Access to reliable transportation. Proficient in the use of Microsoft Suite. Expresses enthusiasm about breastfeeding. Ability to interact with a wide range of cultural, ethnic, racial, and socioeconomic backgrounds.Preferred:
Current or past WIC participant or eligible for WIC services. Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. Proficiency in writing, speaking, and interpreting Spanish or another language.Physical Requirements:
May sit, stand, stoop, bend, and ambulate intermittently during the day. May need to sit or stand for extended periods. See in the normal visual range with or without correction. Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction. Finger dexterity to operate office equipment required. May need to lift up to twenty-five (25) pounds on occasion. Ability to communicate face-to-face, phone, email, and other communications. Ability to see computer monitor and department documents. Requires some exposure to communicable diseases or body fluids.
