Duties Provide real-time interpretation for medical consultations, procedures, and patient interactions across various healthcare settings such as hospitals, clinics, and social services. Translate medical documents, patient records, consent forms, and educational materials accurately and efficiently. Assist with understanding complex medical terminology to ensure patients comprehend diagnoses, treatment plans, medication instructions, and follow-up care. Support communication with child protective services, social workers, and other community agencies to promote patient safety and well-being. Maintain confidentiality by adhering to HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) regulations during all interpretation activities. Review medical documentation for accuracy and completeness; assist with documentation review processes as needed. Facilitate communication for patients with limited English proficiency or hearing impairments using American Sign Language or other accessible methods. Document interactions thoroughly to ensure proper record-keeping and compliance with healthcare standards. Collaborate with healthcare professionals to improve communication strategies tailored to individual patient needs. Experience Multilingual proficiency in at least two languages; fluency in American Sign Language is highly desirable. Prior experience in interpretation within healthcare or social services environments preferred. Strong knowledge of medical terminology across various specialties including pediatrics, emergency care, mental health, and social work. Familiarity with HIPAA regulations governing patient privacy and data security. Experience translating or interpreting medical records, consent forms, or clinical documentation. Excellent communication skills—both verbal and written—with the ability to convey complex information clearly and compassionately.
