Job Description

Category Schools - Sign Language Interpreter Job Type Contract Step into a vital role supporting students as a Sign Language Interpreter in a dynamic academic environment near Charleston, SC. This full-time, on-site contract opportunity spans the 2026-2027 school year, providing essential communication access for students who are deaf or hard of hearing. As part of a team of interpreters, you'll facilitate classroom participation, collaborate with educators, and help ensure every student receives an inclusive educational experience.
What We're Seeking:
Valid EIPA score of 3.5 or higher Proof of a passing score on the EIPA written exam Demonstrated experience interpreting in educational or similar settings Strong command of American Sign Language (ASL) Professionalism, flexibility, and a collaborative spirit Ability to adapt communication style to various age groups and academic subjects Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and supporting student success
Key Responsibilities:
Provide interpreting services for students in a variety of classroom and school-based settings Work closely with teachers, staff, and administration to optimize support for assigned students Adjust interpreting techniques to suit different educational levels and individual student needs Foster a positive, inclusive environment to help students thrive academically and socially Ensure compliance with school district protocols and confidentiality guidelines Participate in team meetings, IEPs, and relevant training sessions as needed
