Job Description

Category Schools - Sign Language Interpreter Job Type Contract Empower students to thrive in an inclusive learning environment by utilizing your expertise as a Sign Language Interpreter. This full-time, school-based contract position offers you the chance to make a daily difference in the lives of students, working in a vibrant educational setting in South Carolina. You'll provide interpretation support that ensures equitable communication access for students who are deaf or hard of hearing—helping them fully participate in academic and extracurricular activities.
Qualifications & Desired Experience:
Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and interpretation practices within K-12 environments Experience interpreting in school settings preferred Valid SLI (Sign Language Interpreter) credential EIPA (Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment) score of 3.5 or higher required; must have completed the written portion Strong collaboration, flexibility, and communication skills Ability to adapt rapidly to a changing caseload and various school routines Comfortable working full-time onsite; some potential for virtual options as the academic year begins
Key Responsibilities:
Deliver clear, accurate sign language interpretation for students during classroom instruction and school events Facilitate communication between students, teachers, staff, and parents Participate in IEP meetings or other team sessions to best serve individual student needs Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and ethical boundaries at all times Respond proactively to feedback and adapt to the evolving requirements of the school day
