Job Description

Category Schools - Sign Language Interpreter Job Type Contract A full-time opportunity is available for experienced Sign Language Interpreters to support students in a dynamic educational setting in Columbia, SC. This contract position runs from August 6, 2026, through May 26, 2027, offering 37.5 hours per week with potential flexibility for virtual work closer to the start of the school year.
Key responsibilities include:
Facilitating effective communication between Deaf or Hard of Hearing students and their peers, teachers, and staff Providing accurate and clear interpretation services using American Sign Language (ASL) in various classroom and school environments Collaborating with educators and support staff to promote an inclusive learning atmosphere Adhering to ethical standards and confidentiality policies in educational settings Qualifications and experience sought: Proven experience as a Sign Language Interpreter, preferably in school settings Minimum score of 3.5 on the EIPA Written portion is required Strong command of ASL and knowledge of Deaf culture Ability to manage caseloads and adapt to diverse student needs Excellent communication and interpersonal skills This opportunity involves onsite work with the possibility of virtual flexibility as the academic year approaches.
