Job Summary The Parent Outreach Translator will interpret verbally and translate written documents from one language to another for School and District staff in order to ensure parents receive School and District information. What you will do Deliver translation and interpretation services to support school and district staff in ensuring equitable language access for multilingual students and families, in accordance with federal requirements. Serve as an interpreter during legally-required meetings such as IEPs, disciplinary hearings, 504 plan meetings, and student support team meetings, while upholding the district's Interpreter Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice. Translate written materials specific to assigned schools and district-level communications as needed, following the district's Translator Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice. Facilitate access to student and family support services by referring families to appropriate resources such as social workers, counselors, academic programs, extracurricular activities, and specialized support services. Support school and district efforts to build strong relationships with multilingual families by personally inviting them to school events, promoting language access, and fostering a welcoming environment. Use the district's designated ticketing system to manage interpretation and translation requests, communicate status updates to requesters, and ensure accurate documentation and reporting of services rendered. Collaborate with the Office of English Learners to coordinate a weekly schedule and daily agenda, and consistently track services provided in order to inform future planning, resource allocation, and improvement of language access. Conduct home visits as needed to support multilingual students and families, always accompanied by another MNPS or Metro Government employee and adhering to district policies and safety protocols. Education Qualifications High School Diploma or GED Required Experience Qualifications A minimum of two years' applicable experience performing language translation duties, including proficient reading, writing, and oral communication in both English and the native language Preferred Experience with Exceptional Education Terminology Preferred Skills and Abilities A proficiency test translating English to native language; develop effective, accurate and grammatically correct written text for a variety of audiences. Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point and Publisher). Establish and maintain working relationships with others; organization and prioritization; work independently and as a member of a team; deal effectively with international parents and children.
