This position is a member of our Intergovernmental Relations Division.
ORA bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, plus two years of full-time experience in the translation of written documents and/or interpretation of verbal communication in Spanish in a professional setting specific to the assignment.
ORCertified interpreter/translator in Spanish from an accredited association; plus one year of full-time experience in the translation of written documents and/or interpretation of verbal communication in Spanish in a professional setting specific to the assignment.
Work ScheduleStandard business hours are M-F, 8:00 a.m.
Individual and work group schedule determined by the Intergovernmental Relations Division.

HERE'S WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
- Provide advanced Spanish translation and interpretation work for the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) under the direction of Intergovernmental Relations (IGR).
- Read and translate technical and general information materials—including but not limited to correspondence, reports, publications, public notices, policies, and procedures from English to Spanish and vice-versa. May provide edits to English text to correct problems that hinder accurate Spanish translation, while maintaining clarity in the English version.
- Work with other senior translation staff in the commissioners' and executive director's offices to establish translation standards. Maintain TCEQ's glossary of agency-specific Spanish terms for use by the agency and contractors. Coach staff on the appropriate translation of materials in Spanish.
- Interpret messages simultaneously or consecutively from English to Spanish and vice-versa, while maintaining message content, context, and style.
- Review, and edit, the translation work of bilingual TCEQ staff and contractors.
Qualifications:
KEY QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience facilitating live English and Spanish interpretation during meetings or events.
- Certification(s) as a Spanish translator and interpreter.
REQUIRED EDUCATION
EXPERIENCEGraduation from a standard senior high school or its equivalent, plus three years of full-time experience in the translation of written documents and/or interpretation of verbal communication in Spanish in a professional setting specific to the assignment.ORA bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, plus two years of full-time experience in the translation of written documents and/or interpretation of verbal communication in Spanish in a professional setting specific to the assignment.
