Category Schools - Sign Language Interpreter Job Type Contract Step into a rewarding contract position as a Sign Language Interpreter, providing essential communication support within a local school setting near Portsmouth, VA. This full-time opportunity (37.5 hours per week) is perfect for dedicated professionals eager to make a daily impact in students' lives. You'll work closely in a 1:1 setting, ensuring access and understanding for the student assigned. Preferred candidates bring not only expertise in American Sign Language (ASL) but also a passion for fostering inclusive learning environments. Your interpreting skills will play a vital role in helping students navigate their academic and social experiences successfully.
Qualifications & Desired Experience:
Valid 3.5 or higher EIPA (Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment) score is required Proven experience in educational settings, specifically supporting K-12 aged students as an interpreter Knowledge of current best practices in sign language interpreting for schools Compassionate communicator with a high degree of professionalism and confidentiality Ability to adapt to dynamic learning environments and individual student needsResponsibilities:
Deliver clear and accurate interpreting services in a 1:1 format within the classroom and during school-related activities Facilitate communication between the student, teachers, classmates, and other staff, ensuring full access to curriculum Support positive student engagement and promote independence Maintain confidentiality and uphold professional boundaries at all times Collaborate with educational teams to monitor student progress and adjust approaches as needed Enjoy the fulfillment that comes with directly supporting student learning while expanding your professional skills in a collaborative educational setting.
