Job Description

Degree in American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreting, certified ASL Interpreter credentials, and 1+ year of experience as an ASL Interpreter in educational settings. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered. Provide skilled Sign Language Interpreter services for students within a Virginia Beach area school district. This position offers full-time, Monday through Friday hours with potential part-time, itinerant opportunities. Assignments primarily focus on 1:1 support for elementary-aged students, with flexibility to cover additional locations as needed based on student attendance.
Key Responsibilities:
Deliver high-quality sign language interpretation tailored to elementary student needs. Support students in various classroom settings and activities. Flexibly provide coverage at multiple school locations to ensure consistent communication access. Utilize Visaphonics as a mode of communication, if preferred. Maintain compliance with quality and credentialing standards.
Qualifications:
VA Quality Assurance Screening (VQAS) Level III certification required. Strong preference for an EIPA score of 3.5 or higher; candidates with a minimum 3.0 EIPA score or QAS score of 3 or above may also be considered. Experience interpreting in educational settings, especially with elementary students, is highly desirable. Ability to work full-time hours, Monday through Friday, with possible part-time or itinerant shifts. Reliable and adaptable to changing assignments depending on student presence.
Location:
Suffolk, VA (Virginia Beach area schools). This role is onsite and does not offer hybrid or remote options.
