Job Description

Category Schools - Sign Language Interpreter Job Type Travel This opportunity seeks four experienced American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreters to support K-12 students in a school setting located in Yorktown, VA. This is a travel assignment running from August 24, 2026, through June 9, 2027, offering approximately 35 hours per week. The role provides direct interpreting services for students spanning elementary to high school levels, including those pursuing standard and modified diplomas.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide live ASL interpretation for diverse student populations from kindergarten through 12th grade, ensuring clear and effective communication. Facilitate access to classroom instruction and school activities for students with hearing impairments. Collaborate with teachers, staff, and families to support student learning and inclusion. Adhere to established professional standards and confidentiality protocols in all interactions.
Qualifications:
Certification of VQAS Level 3 or EIPA 3.0 or higher is required. Proven experience as an ASL Interpreter, particularly in educational environments. Strong communication and interpersonal skills tailored to a school setting. Ability to adapt interpreting services to meet individual student needs.
Schedule Details:
Elementary students (Kindergarten and 2nd grade): 8:40 AM - 3:20 PM High School students (12th grade standard diploma and 10th grade modified diploma): 7:20 AM - 2:05 PM This travel assignment provides a dynamic environment to utilize your ASL skills in multiple educational contexts, positively impacting students' academic success and inclusion.
