HARBORVIEW'S INTERPRETER SERVICES
has an outstanding opportunity for a
MEDICAL INTERPRETER 2 - SPANISH.
This individual performs interpretation services to patients who have limited English skills, enabling the patient(s) to access medical care.
WORK SCHEDULE
Full-Time, 40 hours/week, Day Shift.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
Provides interpretation for target languages. Provides accurate rendition of a written text in one language to an oral message in another language. Provides spoken language interpretation, in person, by telephone or video to transmit information accurately between patient and provider or staff. Encourage direct communication between patients and provider or staff. Utilize/integrate ethical practice to guide behavior in all interpretations. Provide expert written translation in target languages including the initial translation and delivering secondary reviews, editing, and formatting. Orient and train medical center staff on key topics in language access. Follows the Interpreter Services Department Standards of Practice. Explains and clarifies cultural behaviors. Assists patients to complete medical, financial and/or other forms. Answers and directs telephone inquiries, takes and directs messages accurately, demonstrating courteous, professional telephone skills. Coordinate and develop translation of written or videotaped medical materials. Provide sight translation in the presence of the medical provider and/or other medical staff. Consult with medical providers prior to or during interpretation encounters. Explain and clarify cultural differences. Assist patients to complete medical, financial, or other forms. Complete documentation related to the interpretation encounters.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High school graduation or equivalent AND three years interpretation and translation experience in a clinic or hospital setting AND Washington State Department of Social and Health Services certification or qualification OR equivalent education/experience.
