Job Description
Category Schools - Sign Language Interpreter Job Type Contract Make a meaningful difference by supporting young learners as a Sign Language Interpreter in a welcoming Kindergarten classroom in the Milwaukee area. This contract position focuses on foundational American Sign Language, helping students discover and build their communication skills. You'll be providing half-day SLI support each school day throughout the entire 2026-2027 school year, with the possibility of staying on beyond June. Your role centers on interpreting and guiding students as they learn basic ASL - no advanced vocabulary required. You'll have a set, predictable half-day schedule, making it easier to balance your professional and personal life. As the classroom SLI, you'll collaborate closely with teachers and staff, ensuring students receive the language support they need to thrive.
Desired experience and qualifications:
Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) Prior experience as a Sign Language Interpreter, especially in school settings Familiarity with early childhood education or supporting young children a plus Ability to interpret at a basic level for students new to ASL Professional, compassionate, and dedicated to inclusive learning Responsibilities include: Interpreting classroom instruction and peer interactions using foundational ASL Supporting students' understanding and participation in lessons, activities, and routines Collaborating with teachers to reinforce language acquisition and classroom engagement Modeling clear, age-appropriate sign language for developing learners Providing a supportive and encouraging environment for all students This position offers competitive pay along with the option to enroll in medical, dental, and vision benefits.
