Job Description

The Theatre Light Technician is a part-time position in the Parks & Recreation Department. Assist with planning, organizing, and monitoring the technical operations of the Hermosa Beach Community Theatre and 2nd Story Theatre. Perform and oversee exclusive use of city-owned theatre equipment; and perform related work as required or assigned.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
All lighting fixtures including LED, moving, and non-moving fixtures. Light plots and fixture placement (magic) sheets. Maintenance and repair of various light instruments. Soldering and electrical rewiring following safety protocol. Personal computers and computer software programs used by the City.
Ability to:
Meet with customers to determine lighting-related technical and artistic requirements for events or performances. Safe routing and discreet placement of various electrical cables. Patch light consoles, address lighting fixtures, interpret light plots, set light cues, and make artistic and technical designs. Monitor the condition of the lighting equipment; notify the Lead Theatre Technician of need to repair and replacement equipment within budget limitations and aid in securing and setting up such equipment. Conduct periodic safety inspections of lighting equipment. Collaborate and assist the Lead Theatre Technician with response to renters on technical operations and take appropriate action to resolve problems. Communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Exercise tact and deal effectively with representatives from other City departments, Commissions, Foundations, and the public.
Experience:
Any combination of training, education, and experience that would have provided the required knowledge and skills is qualifying such as a minimum of one year of progressively responsible experience in the light operations of a performing arts facility, supplemented by technical course(s) in light operations. Applicants must be at least 18 years or older, must be a High School Graduate, and must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License.
