Summary of Position The Theatre & Dance Department at RRCC is seeking a lighting designer to teach lighting design courses, attend scheduled production meetings, create original lighting design for main-stage productions, and coordinate and program lighting cues for main-stage productions. The lighting instructor will also train student light board operators for each production and mentor students in this design area. This assignment is associated with theatrical productions and special events. This position reports to Kely Jo Eldredge. The work schedule for this position includes week-day teaching hours (depending on course assignment), independent lighting design work, weekly production meeting attendance, and evening hours for technical rehearsals and performances. May require hours outside of normal work schedule. This position may work up to 28 hours per week, depending on budget and need Qualifications Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Previous experience in lighting design; previous experience in educational, professional, and/or community theatre. Must be eligible for CTE certification. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Theatre or comparable arts program or 4 years professional experience in theatre performance or technology and has, or qualifies for, postsecondary CTE credential including 2000 non-teaching occupational hours. Preferred Qualifications MFA in Theatre Technology/Lighting Design Physical & Cognitive Demands The following are some of the physical and cognitive demands commonly associated with this position. Moderate physical demands transporting and securing lighting equipment within the theater space and to alternate performance venues. The person in this position constantly communicates with internal and external constituents and students. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations. Cognitive demands include coordinating with designers and directors, computing, analyzing, instructing, negotiating, communicating, and interpersonal skills. Advertised Hourly Pay The hourly pay for this position is $1,149.00 - $1,263.00 per credit hour for teaching assignments and $30.05/hour for lighting design assignments, commensurate with education and experience. This is a part-time, FLSA exempt position and may work up to 28 hours per week, depending on budget and need. This position has been exempted from the State Classified System. RRCC/CCCS
uses an initial 12-month measurement period to determine medical benefit eligibility, and a 12-month standard measurement period. Student employees are limited to working no more than 20 hours a week when classes are in session, and may work up to 28 hours a week, during academic breaks or breaks between terms at the discretion of the college, and non-classified hourly and temporary staff are limited to 28 hours in a workweek, depending on budget and need.
