Interim Event/House Manager Description:
Interim Event/House Manager is a member of the Memorial Hall / Lowell Hall Complex production team, reporting to the Production Manager and performs audience take-in/house management, administrative, and technical duties supporting College, University, and external events. The Memorial Hall/Lowell Hall Complex is a department within the Office for the Arts at Harvard (OFA) and the Faculty of Arts & Sciences at Harvard University. The OFA is dedicated to building a diversemunity of individuals who aremitted to contributing to an inclusive environment.
On performance days and evenings, the Event/House Manager responsibilities include placing and instructing ushers; resolving ticket / seating problems and patronplaints in consultation with the Box Office staff; assisting patrons with special physical needs and/or limitations; enforcing fire codes inside and outside the building; and responding to emergencies. They will also coordinate efforts of Producers, Box Office staff, ushers, security staff, custodial staff, and technical staff in assuring swift and safe seating of audience, timely start of performance, and safe, clean, andfortable conditions for patrons and performers both inside and outside the building.
Other duties include:
- Supervise Day-of Event support staff.
- Ensure accurate payroll entry for all event staff.
- Supervise equipment load-ins and load outs, furniture set ups and strikes, piano moves and tunings, parking, security, and custodial coverage for events in Memorial Hall/Lowell Hall Complex.
- Communicate and enforce building policies.
- Advise on use of the venue's theatrical lighting and audio systems.
- Operates the piano and wheelchair lifts in Sanders Theatre.
Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications
- Two-years of experience in event execution and house management at a performance venue, preferably in an academic setting.
- Experience in the general operation of theatrical lighting and audio systems.
- Ability and willingness to regularly work a flexible and varied schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs. Additional Qualifications
- Ability and experience working with students, professionals, and the public.
- Excellentmunication skills.
- Ability to work well independently and with others.
- Knowledge of music performance practices desirable.
- Ability to occasionally lift and move loads weighing more than 25 pounds.
