Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled Theatre Tech to oversee the technical operations of our theatre. The successful candidate will manage and maintain our lighting, sound, and AV systems, ensuring all equipment is operational and up-to-date. This role requires hands-on experience in theatre production, strong technical skills, and the ability to train and supervise student technicians. This is a 261 day, 8 hour per day position.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Technical Training in
Theatre Systems:
  • Master ETC's technical systems, including the ETC Ion Xe console, ETC Paradigm Architectural Control Processor (house lighting), and the DMX sACN Protocol.
  • Rebuild and streamline the patch system for ease of use by students and directors.
  • Gain and apply knowledge in network operations, focusing on control systems and DMX gateways.
  • Patch in new lighting and troubleshoot lighting equipment.
  • Understand and operate the Sensor3 Power Control System and its auxiliary equipment, including relay modules, circuit breakers, data distribution equipment, emergency bypass controllers, networking equipment, and uninterruptible power supplies (UPS).
2. Hands-On Experience in
Productions:
  • Assist students in building sets, managing lighting and sound, and designing stages for various productions.
  • Collaborate with directors to ensure their vision is realized.
  • Manage the QLab system for multimedia playback in live performances.
  • Train on and ensure the functionality of the QLab system for upcoming shows/events.

Maintenance and Collaboration:
  • Perform minor repairs and organize stage equipment.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues during performances and practices, escalating to technical support as needed.
  • Collaborate with production designers, directors, and faculty to achieve desired audio and lighting effects.
  • Communicate with external stakeholders to ensure equipment compatibility for events.
4.
Leadership and Management:
  • Supervise and train student technicians in technical theatre.
  • Manage the technical aspects of performances, including stage management and cue calling.
  • Oversee the setup and takedown of equipment for events.
  • Offer tours and technical assistance to public coordinators for various events.
5.
AV Systems:
  • Build and continuously improve AV systems to enhance event capabilities for students to run.

Financial Management:
  • Assist the Theatre Director with budget management and purchasing of equipment and supplies.
  • Delegate funds to multiple vendors.
  • Secure funding for purchasing equipment and consumables for the theater.
7.
Interdepartmental Coordination and Continuous Learning:
  • Attend meetings and training related to production, such as QLab, ETC, and Allen & Heath.
  • Coordinate with other departments like music and art for their technical needs.
  • Stay current on new applications and techniques in theatre technology.
8.
Safety and Inventory Management:
  • Manage materials, lighting, and sound equipment inventory, ensuring maintenance and good condition.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA and ANSI standards.
  • Ensuring compliance and understanding of the Elko High School Performing Arts Building Safety handbook and Emergency Procedures and Protocols.
  • Ensuring compliance with ECSD Procedures.

Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in technical theatre management.
  • Proficiency with ETC systems, DMX protocols, QLab, and AV systems.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills.
  • Knowledge of safety standards and inventory management.
  • Ability to have a flexible schedule.
