Art and Design Studio Technician We are now accepting applications for a qualified Art and Design Studio Technician at Belmont University. Employment Type Staff Internal Job Category Non-Exempt (Staff) Full-Time Department College of Art Hours 37.5
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
The Studio Technician for the Watkins College of Art oversees the daily operations, maintenance, and safety of the art and design studios. This position ensures that all studio facilities, equipment, and instructional spaces function effectively to support student learning and faculty instruction. The technician plays a critical role in coordinating technical support, managing safety compliance, and facilitating repairs, while maintaining strong communication with university departments. This role exists to ensure safe, efficient, and professional studio environments across the college. While primarily housed in the Watkins College of Art, the position also provides related studio support to the O'More College of Architecture and Design as needed. Primary Position Responsibilities Oversee daily operations, functionality, and general maintenance of art and design studios in the Watkins College of Art. Manage the equipment checkout process in coordination with faculty, staff, and department chairs, ensuring proper tracking, availability, and care of shared equipment. Troubleshoot lab computers, printers, and AV equipment; coordinate complex IT issues with appropriate university departments. Coordinate facilities- and equipment-related repairs, including submitting and tracking work orders through FMS and procurement requests through BPS. Maintain studio readiness by coordinating specialized cleaning, materials management, and upkeep with housekeeping and campus partners. Manage general and specialized studio safety training, ensuring required modules are implemented, updated, and recorded. Oversee safety documentation processes, including maintaining annual SDS updates and consolidated health and safety records. Ensure compliance with university risk management standards and applicable regulations (e.g., EPA, OSHA), including organizing annual walkthroughs and following up on identified concerns. Provide similar operational and technical support for the O'More College of Architecture and Design as needed.

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in art, design, studio art, or a closely related field, or equivalent combination of education and professional experience. Experience working in studio art environments (such as printmaking, photography, sculpture, drawing, digital labs, or design studios). Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot basic technology issues, including computers, printers, and AV systems. Ability to coordinate maintenance, repair workflows, and vendor or departmental communication. Strong organizational skills with the ability to track multiple projects simultaneously. Knowledge of-or ability to learn-requirements and best practices related to OSHA, EPA, and institutional safety compliance. Commitment to maintaining safe, inclusive, and educationally supportive studio environments.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working in higher education or academic art and design facilities. Prior experience with safety training development or implementation. Familiarity with SDS documentation, risk management practices, and art studio equipment maintenance. Experience with facilities work-order systems and purchasing platforms (e.g., FMS, BPS). Required Education Bachelor's degree in art, design, studio art, or a closely related field, or equivalent combination of education and professional experience is strongly preferred. Required Experience - Experience working in studio art environments (such as printmaking, photography, sculpture, drawing, digital labs, or design studios).
