Job Description Overview Student Affairs at Auburn University is seeking candidates for the position of Assistant Director, Campus Recreation (Competitive Sports) to assist in directing the daily operations of a competitive sports program within the Department of Recreation and Wellness. Auburn's Recreation and Wellness department facilitates programming at the 250,000 sq. ft. Recreation and Wellness Center, 15 acres of grass turf fields, and the 30 acre artificial turf SportsPlex. Responsibilities Manages the administration of the Competitive Sports program to include annual planning and execution, budget development/tracking/reconciliation, reporting participation assessment, collaborates with internal/external campus partners, supervises professional and student staff, manages program software, oversees equipment inventory and replacement plans, collaborates with facility operations on Competitive Sports programmatic needs related to outdoor fields/courts, indoor courts/gyms, and satellite facilities. Provides leadership and oversight for three Competitive Sports coordinators, 1-2 program leads, 10 -15 student supervisors, and 70 - 90 student assistants and officials by delegating responsibilities and evaluating their performance. Recruits, hires, trains, schedules, evaluates, and mentor's student staff in each component of the Competitive Sports program. Plans and implements Intramural Sports programming that includes sports leagues, special events, tournaments, and championship week activities and games. Serves as the Intramural Sports content expert and stays current on program management, officiating, and sportsmanship best practices. Manages the Club Sports program by assigning leadership liaisons, scheduling practices and competitions, allocating/tracking budgets, developing risk management plans, overseeing the student athlete Club Sport leadership council, and handling equipment and supplies. Facilitates meetings and training sessions to support Club Sport officers, guiding them as they develop their leadership skills within their organizations. Works with Marketing to suggest updates for the website, IM champ shirt designs, Club Sport team pages, project request forms, semester schedules, and promotional materials for events and competitions. Uses Fusion and IMLeagues to manage online registrations, league schedules, roster management, and team communication. Coordinates with Facility Operations, Student Conduct, and Equal Opportunity Compliance on relevant incidents, and oversees disciplinary actions in Competitive Sports, including suspensions, ejections, and misconduct involving participants, athletes, coaches, faculty, and staff. Trains student staff on emergency protocols and reviews incident reports related to program safety. Maintains a good understanding and working knowledge of industry best practices through professional development opportunities including regional and national conferences, certifications, workshops, clinics, and site-visits. Qualifications Bachelor's Degree with no specific discipline. and 5 years of experience in programming, recreation, health & safety, or risk management. OR Master's Degree with no specific discipline. and 3 years of experience in programming, recreation, health & safety, or risk management.
Licenses & Certifications:
Driver License, Valid and in
State Upon Hire Required Desired Qualifications:
1-3 years full-time experience in intramural sports, club sports, or recreation programs. Experience managing or operating a comprehensive intramural sports program (scheduling, officials, leagues).
