Job Description
Seeking a Director of Casting to lead casting efforts across our unscripted development slate, with a heavy emphasis on lifestyle, talent-led formats, docu-follow, home, food, family, culture, and character-driven projects.
This position is ideal for someone with strong instincts for discovering breakout talent, identifying compelling subcultures, and shaping real people into sellable unscripted concepts. The right candidate should be equally comfortable finding fresh faces in unexpected places, conducting strong talent interviews, and helping build the creative materials needed to sell a show.
Responsibilities
Identify, research, and recruit standout talent for unscripted projects, with a focus on lifestyle, home, food, family, workplace, culture, and character-driven worlds.
Discover unique characters, families, businesses, communities, and subcultures that can support compelling television formats.
Lead outreach to potential talent, experts, creators, businesses, and real-world communities.
Conduct preliminary interviews and assess whether talent has the personality, access, authenticity, and story engine to anchor a series.
Help secure talent interest and participation, including managing early-stage communications, releases, and deal conversations in coordination with producers.
Develop and shape casting materials for internal review and network pitches, including written bios, character breakdowns, casting grids, and talent summaries.
Work closely with producers to create sales materials, including decks, one-sheets, interview selects, sizzle reels, and presentation reels built around talent interviews.
Collaborate with development and production teams to identify the strongest show angles, character dynamics, story arcs, and format hooks.
Track casting progress, organize submissions, maintain talent databases, and provide regular updates on promising leads.
Stay current on lifestyle trends, social media personalities, emerging communities, regional subcultures, and unscripted television casting opportunities.
Qualifications
Strong experience casting unscripted television, especially lifestyle, docu-follow, home, food, family, renovation, workplace, or character-driven formats.
Excellent eye for talent, character, authenticity, and on-camera potential.
Ability to identify people and worlds that feel fresh, specific, and highly pitchable.
Strong interviewing skills and the ability to make talent feel comfortable while pulling out story, personality, conflict, stakes, and humor.
Experience contributing to or creating pitch materials, casting reels, presentation reels, sales decks, and written talent materials.
Strong writing and communication skills, with the ability to distill talent and concepts into clear, compelling pitch language.
Comfortable working independently, moving quickly, and managing multiple casting searches at once.
Strong research skills and the ability to find talent beyond the obvious channels.
Relationships with casting producers, talent, creators, agents, managers, or lifestyle personalities are a plus.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is a creative, highly motivated casting executive who understands what makes unscripted talent pop. They can spot a great character before everyone else does, understand the larger world around that person, and help turn that discovery into a compelling pitch. They should have great taste, strong hustle, sharp instincts, and the ability to bridge casting, development, and sales.
