Job Description
The City of Valparaiso, located in the corner of Northwest Indiana, just 60 miles southeast of Chicago, IL and 15 miles south of the beautiful Indiana Dunes National Park, is seeking a Recreation Program Director for the Parks and Recreation Department. This position will be responsible for planning, promoting, implementing, evaluating and supervising department recreation programs.
Qualifications Include:
High School Diploma or equivalent. At least 21 years of age. Possession of a valid driver's license and a demonstrated safe driving record.
Position Expectations Include:
Creates, plans and implements diversified recreational sports programs including scheduling, supervising activities, evaluating programs, and recommending new programs/activities as appropriate. Supervises and directs assigned personnel including interviewing applicants, making hiring recommendations, making/scheduling work assignments, providing orientation and training, evaluating performance, maintaining discipline, reviewing salaries, recommending personnel actions, and informing supervisor and assigned staff of organization developments needed to perform position responsibilities. Oversees and administers budgets for all assigned sports programs and events. Tracks expenses, staff hours, game/contest/event results and submit detailed reports. Schedules sports programs and staff for sports, enrichment, special events, and other activities. Provides detailed program information for printed and online publications including social media. Updates online information for current and upcoming programs. Determines status of games/contests/programs as it relates to participation due to weather events. Manages inventory and orders supplies for programs, concessions, and facilities as required. Works with other businesses in fostering partnerships and sponsorships for in-kind donations as well as monetary contributions for programs and events. Creates and maintains relationships with schools, other agencies, and individuals to partner in the delivery of quality programs, whether it be through site usage or contracting for services. Creates progress reports for programs and facilities. Responds to emergency situations as required. Performs other related duties as assigned.

The City of Valparaiso provides a competitive salary structure. Pay for this position will be +/- 65,372 annually commensurate with the candidate's qualifications, experience, and education. The position is overtime exempt and is scheduled for 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday 8AM-5PM.
