Job Description

General Function Under the direction of the COO/Branch Executive, the Senior Director of Youth Development and Sports provides leadership and operational oversight for key branch program areas, working in close partnership with the Senior Director of Risk, Aquatics, and Facilities. This position is responsible for the supervision and strategic management of Youth and Adult Sports, Youth Development programs, including summer camp, afterschool, and teen initiatives, while collaborating with branch leadership to ensure all programs are safe, high-quality, inclusive, and aligned with the YMCA's mission, values, and strategic objectives. The ideal candidate is a hands-on, servant-hearted leader who embraces the YMCA philosophy, leads by example, and takes pride in doing what it takes to get the job done. This individual will demonstrate strong organizational skills, sound judgment, and the ability to build trusting relationships with staff, volunteers, and community partners - ensuring the JF Hurley Family YMCA remains a safe, welcoming, and impactful place for all. Know How BS degree in recreation management, business administration, or related field and minimum of four years YMCA work experience or equivalent experience preferred. Must be attentive to details, be able to work with and meet deadlines, take initiative to develop and provide information and controls necessary for efficient operations. Must have strong skills in human relations, budgeting, sound fiscal management, financial development, program management, volunteer and staff development, committee and board relations and staff supervision. Must be able to take initiative in making decisions and solving problems and work independently with little supervision. R.O.S.T.E.R.
(Recruit, Orient, Supervise, Train, Evaluate and Reward) Assist the Sports Director, and Youth Development Coordinator with the supervision and development of their departmental staff. Help develop, manage, and monitor the branch-operating budget and meet or exceed budget targets. Assist COO in the development of the Branch Board of Managers and committees. Guide the development and management of branch programs to meet the needs of the community and achieve association operating objectives. Ensure outstanding customer/member service and meet all Association standards. Implement YMCA values and mission in all programs and all aspects of branch operations. Help direct the annual giving campaign with a volunteer campaign director, under the direction of the COO. Help direct staff and volunteers on implementation of membership campaigns. Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with community agencies in service delivery area. Assist with public relations and marketing efforts for all operations of the branch. Prepare reports regarding programs, membership, staff development etc., as needed. Oversee management and maintenance of the facility and equipment (if assigned•) Develop and maintain relationships with current and potential funding sources, both private and public. Assist program directors in increasing quality, participation, and safety of programs. Partner with V.P. of Risk and Safety to coordinate safety drills (Fire, Pool, Missing Child, Emergency etc.) and develop and coordinate EAP trainings for staff. Other duties as assigned by the COO.
