$50,000-$60,000 annually Position Summary The Sports & Physical Wellness Director is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing all sports, fitness, recreation, and physical wellness programming at the Teen Center. This position promotes healthy lifestyles by creating engaging opportunities for teens to build physical fitness, teamwork, leadership, sportsmanship, and lifelong wellness habits. The Sports & Physical Wellness Director manages the Teen Center gymnasium and fitness spaces, coordinates sports leagues and tournaments, oversees equipment and facility maintenance, and collaborates with other program staff to integrate wellness initiatives throughout the Teen Center. This role supports the Boys & Girls Club mission of helping young people reach their full potential as productive, caring, and healthy citizens. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Sports & Recreation Programming Plan, implement, and evaluate a variety of sports, fitness, recreation, and wellness programs for teens. Facilitate daily gym activities, open recreation, organized sports, fitness challenges, and wellness initiatives. Develop programs that promote physical activity, healthy lifestyles, teamwork, leadership, and positive decision-making. Ensure programming aligns with Boys & Girls Clubs of America Healthy Lifestyles outcomes and Program Quality Standards. Create opportunities for youth participation regardless of skill level, experience, or physical ability. Tournament & Event Coordination Organize and oversee sports leagues, tournaments, competitions, and special events. Coordinate schedules, rules, registrations, officials, volunteers, and event logistics. Build partnerships with schools, community organizations, recreation departments, and local sports programs. Promote participation and engagement in athletic and wellness activities. Coordinate travel and supervision for off-site competitions and events as needed. Gym & Facility Management Manage the daily operations and scheduling of the gymnasium and recreation spaces. Develop and maintain gym schedules that maximize youth participation and program quality. Monitor facility usage and ensure spaces remain safe, clean, organized, and welcoming. Conduct regular inspections of equipment and facilities. Coordinate maintenance and repairs with facility staff and vendors as needed. Maintain inventory of sports equipment, supplies, and fitness resources. Youth Development & Member Engagement Build positive and supportive relationships with youth. Foster an environment that emphasizes respect, sportsmanship, inclusion, and teamwork. Serve as a mentor and role model for healthy living and positive behavior. Encourage youth leadership opportunities through sports and wellness programming. Recognize and celebrate youth achievements and progress. Safety & Risk Management Ensure compliance with all Club safety policies and procedures. Maintain appropriate supervision and accountability of youth during activities. Conduct safety checks of facilities and equipment. Respond appropriately to injuries, incidents, and emergencies. Maintain required certifications and safety documentation. Staff Collaboration & Leadership Collaborate with Teen Center staff to integrate physical wellness components into broader programming. Assist with special events, community outreach, and center-wide initiatives. Support and train staff, volunteers, and coaches involved in sports and recreation activities. Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and organizational trainings. Administrative Responsibilities Track attendance, participation, and program outcomes. Maintain records related to leagues, tournaments, equipment, and facility usage. Assist with budget planning and purchasing of sports and wellness supplies. Prepare reports as required by leadership, grants, or funding agencies. Qualifications Required High School Diploma or GED required; Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Recreation, Physical Education, Sports Management, Kinesiology, Health Promotion, Youth Development, or a related field preferred. Minimum of two years of experience working with youth in sports, recreation, fitness, or wellness programming. Experience organizing athletic leagues, tournaments, or recreational events. Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills. Ability to supervise and engage groups of teens in active settings. CPR, First Aid, and AED Certification (or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire). Ability to pass all required background checks. Preferred Experience in a Boys & Girls Club, recreation center, school athletics, or youth-serving organization. Knowledge of adolescent development and positive youth development principles. Coaching certification(s) or sports officiating experience. Experience managing facilities, equipment inventories, and activity schedules.
