The Associate Athletics Director for Sports Medicine/Head Athletic Trainer will develop, coordinate, and administer a comprehensive sports medical program for Eastern Mexico University's intercollegiate sports. The Associate Athletics Director for Sports Medicine/Head Athletic Trainer will also perform professional and administrative services essential for the successful implementation and development of the program. The Associate Athletics Director for Sports Medicine/Head Athletic Trainer will report to the Deputy Director of Athletics for Internal Affairs.
Requirements Duties and Responsibilities:
Coordinate and administer the sports medical program for all sports at Eastern Mexico University.
Develop overall sports medicine program for all sports at Eastern Mexico University (ENMU), including: injury prevention programs, injury evaluations, injury management, injury treatment and rehabilitation, educational programs, and counseling for student-athletes
Provide athletic training services for all sports at ENMU, including attendance at scheduled team practices and home and away competitions as necessary
Coordinate and schedule physical examinations and medical referrals for student-athletes to determine their ability to practice and compete
Responsible for the formation of the University's athletic training staff, including hiring, training, and supervision of assistant/associate athletic trainers, graduate assistant athletic trainers, and student athletic trainers
Work in conjunction with the strength and conditioning staff to ensure safety in the design and implementation of fitness, nutrition, and conditioning programs customized to meet individual student-athlete needs
Schedule and coordinate athletic training staff and students for coverage of team practices and athletic competitions
Ensure compliance with all NCAA, conference, university, and departmental policies and procedures
Responsible for the fiscal management of the unit, including development and control of the sports medicine program budget
Responsible for recordkeeping, documentation, and coordination of the university's medical insurance program
Evaluate and recommend new techniques and equipment that would enhance the benefit of the sports medicine program
May teach Health and Physical Education courses
Regular and predictable attendance required
Perform other duties as assigned
Minimum Job Requirements:
Master's degree required
BOC Certification required
Eligibility for the Mexico state license.
First Aid, CPR, and AED certification
Three years of progressively responsible professional athletic training experience required
Must maintain conduct consistent with the university and state code of conduct.
A valid Mexico Driver's License or the ability to obtain one within 30 days of employment is also required, as well as the ability to safely operate a motor vehicle in all kinds of weather and road conditions
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Familiarity with NCAA governing rules
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to work as a member of a sports medicine team
Working Conditions Physical Demand and Working Conditions:
Work is performed on a 12-month contract basis
Work is performed during normal business hours, but requires frequent evening and weekend hours, and requires frequent travel with collegiate teams
Work is performed both inside a non-smoking facility and outdoors; it involves extremes of cold and hot plus temperature changes, wet and humid conditions
Work requires a mixture of prolonged sitting, standing constantly (all day), walking, and/or moving frequently
Work may also require the ability to use both upper and lower extremities for manipulation of machines, tools, etc., for patients as needed; may require exertion of up to 50 pounds
