Job Description:
The Assistant Professor & Director of Choirs and Musical Theatre will provide direction and oversight of the Concert Choir, Floodstage (Vocal Acapella), and for Rock and Jazz Ensemble as well as musical direction and accompanist for Theatre rehearsals and productions. Essential Functions of the
Position:
Provide guidance to students in both Music and Theatre programs. Serve as the Theatre Department's Musical Director for musical productions and rehearsals. Teach courses related to area of expertise. Provide students with academic advising with a focus on student success. Rehearsal accompanist and pit conductor for the Theatre's musical productions. Serves as the accompanist during rehearsals and will conduct performances but not necessarily play an instrument during performances. Actively recruit new students and transfers. Direct and oversee Music Department's choir ensembles.
Requirements:
Collaboration and leadership skills. Strong proficiency in playing the piano and sight-reading abilities. Knowledge of various styles of vocal performance from classical to contemporary. Capacity for adapting to and working within existing resources and parameters. Ability to teach within the context of a broad-based liberal arts, educational context. Ability to participate in various campus outreach and donor relations efforts.
Additional Information:
Required Experience & Education:
Master's degree or higher in a related field. 3+ years of experience in Choral Conducting. Documented experience working with students as a Music Director. 2+ years of teaching experience at the higher education level preferred.
