Job Description

Science Policy News, Director
SUMMARY:
Provides overall direction on federal science policy news as top editor of FYI, a news service dedicated to coverage of US policy and budget on science. Manages a team to monitor and disseminate information on the formulation of federal legislation, policy and budget related to scientific research. Develops and manages annual program budget and has responsibility for managing revenue and controlling expenses.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
  • Oversee a team of writers and set an editorial agenda for coverage of science policy in the US
  • Edit stories, newsletters and projects as needed
  • Coordinate collaborative efforts with other content units in AIP, including Policy Research and Physics Today
  • Provide strategic vision and operational support for FYI products
  • Provide thought leadership on science policy development for internal stakeholders, including Member Organizations, and external audiences
  • Oversee production of FYI newsletters, website and Budget and Bill Trackers
  • Develop and maintain FYI portion of Content & Engagement annual budget and works to identify revenue opportunities
WHAT YOU'LL BRING
  • Bachelor's Degree required; Master's Degree preferred.
  • 5-8 years of proven success and experience in policy reporting, science writing, or policy analysis.
  • A strong grasp of legislative and budget processes in the US federal government
  • Preferably a solid understand of science policy and the issues surrounding science policy
  • Experience level enables job holder to provide leadership to others work-related systems, processes, and challenges.
Managerial Experience:
Experienced in strategic management and leadership across organizational functions directing substantial resources over long-time frames.

COMPENSATION
$119,680.00- $131,648.00

The team works in a flexible, hybrid schedule and reports to our offices in College Park, Maryland and Washington, DC, as needed.
