Role:
As a Commercial Manager, you will build and lead our regional commercial team and drive strategies that support profitable growth and strong project performance. This role will support our recent acquisition. Reporting to the Vice President of Commercial, you'll oversee all commercial aspects of our contracts, provide financial and market insights to senior leadership, and ensure our projects are delivered with commercial accuracy and compliance. You will work closely with project, finance, and operational teams while building strong relationships with clients and partners. Your expertise in contract management, commercial risk, and strategic decision-making will play a key role in supporting our position as a leader in high-voltage engineering and the global energy transition. Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership & Team Management Lead, mentor, and develop the regional commercial team, fostering a high-performance culture focused on delivering accurate and timely commercial support to internal and external stakeholders. Allocate workloads, set clear objectives, and conduct regular performance reviews to ensure the team operates efficiently and meets organisational standards. Commercial Strategy & Business Growth Develop, implement, and continuously refine commercial strategies aligned with business objectives, enabling sustainable revenue growth and improved profitability. Provide insights and recommendations to senior leadership based on financial analysis, market intelligence, and business performance metrics. Contract & Financial Management Oversee all commercial aspects of contracts, including preparation of pricing models, tender submissions, contract negotiation, and ongoing contract administration. Ensure compliance with contractual requirements, company policies, and relevant regulations throughout the project lifecycle. Lead commercial risk assessments, identify potential exposures, and develop mitigation strategies. Project Commercial Oversight Conduct regular and detailed reviews of project budgets, forecasts, costs, and profit margins to ensure financial targets are achieved and maintained. Support project teams with commercial guidance, resolving issues related to scope changes, variations, claims, and payments. Collaborate closely with operations and finance to ensure accurate reporting and governance around project performance. Market & Business Development Analysis Conduct ongoing analysis of market trends, customer needs, emerging risks, and competitor activity to inform strategic decision-making. Identify and evaluate new business opportunities, supporting bid/no-bid decisions and contributing to the development of compelling proposals. Relationship Management Build, nurture, and maintain strong relationships with key customers, suppliers, subcontractors, and external partners to support long-term business success. Act as a primary commercial point of contact for clients, ensuring effective communication, issue resolution, and customer satisfaction. Performance Reporting & Compliance Monitor commercial performance indicators across projects and produce regular reports for senior management, highlighting risks, opportunities, and areas for improvement. Ensure high standards of accuracy and transparency in all commercial documentation and reporting.
Key Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or a related discipline. Minimum of 5 years' experience in a commercial management or senior commercial role within the engineering, construction, or infrastructure sectors. Strong understanding of commercial, financial, and contractual principles, including experience with standard forms of contract (e.g., FIDIC, ConsensusDocs 410 /415, AIA Design-Build, or bespoke contracts).
Skills & Competencies:
Demonstrated ability to manage the commercial performance of large-scale or complex projects. Excellent negotiation, communication, and stakeholder-management skills with the ability to influence at all levels. Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial data and prepare detailed commercial reports. High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, with the ability to develop and use advanced spreadsheets and financial models. Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within cross-functional project teams. Strong attention to detail, organisational skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Pay:
$120,000.00 - $190,000.00 per year
