Position Summary:
We are seeking a highly motivated and aggressive Photographer / Electronic News Gathering (ENG) Camera Operator with strong storytelling abilities and a sharp "news eye" to join our fast-paced news team. The ideal candidate thrives under pressure, meets tight deadlines, and collaborates effectively with newsroom staff to produce compelling visual content for broadcast.
Key Responsibilities:
Operate Sony HD ENG cameras and related field equipment to capture high-quality video content Work closely with reporters and producers to determine the best shots, angles, and visual storytelling approach Set up, light, and compose shots in a variety of environments, including breaking news situations Edit video using non-linear editing systems (e.g., Adobe Premiere, Avid) to meet daily deadlines Coordinate with newsroom personnel for live shots, transmissions, and field production needs Demonstrate strong editorial judgment and the ability to identify impactful, newsworthy moments Maintain and troubleshoot equipment to ensure optimal performance in the field Stay current with industry trends, technology, and best practices in news photography
Qualifications:
Minimum of 2-5 years of experience as a news photographer or ENG camera operator Strong storytelling skills with a keen eye for composition and detail Experience in a fast-paced, deadline-driven news environment Proficiency with Sony HD cameras and non-linear editing systems Experience with live shots and field production Excellent communication and teamwork skills Ability to multitask and adapt quickly to changing situations Valid Class "D" Driver's License (required) Bachelor's degree in Communications, Broadcasting, or related field (preferred)
Core Physical Requirements:
This role involves medium to heavy physical work in dynamic and unpredictable environments: Ability to lift and carry equipment (cameras, tripods, lighting kits) weighing 25-50 lbs regularly Stand and walk for extended periods, often across long distances or uneven terrain Frequent bending, crouching, kneeling, twisting, and reaching to capture shots and set up equipment Strong manual dexterity for operating camera controls and editing systems Visual acuity for both close-up editing and long-distance shot composition, including color accuracy Ability to work in physically demanding and high-mobility conditions throughout the shift
Work Environment & Demands:
Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions (heat, rain, etc.) Operate station vehicles, including ENG/SNG trucks, as needed Work in fast-paced, high-stress, and potentially hazardous breaking news environments Flexibility to work nights, weekends, holidays, and extended hours as required
