Now Hiring:
Art Handler The Art Handler plays a vital role in ensuring the safe movement, installation, packing, and transportation of the world-class art, antiques, and jewelry entrusted to M.S. Rau. This role requires precision, craftsmanship, and care in handling rare and often irreplaceable objects. From preparing exhibitions and tradeshows to delivering works to clients' homes, you will be on the front line of presenting extraordinary pieces of history. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced professional who thrives in a hands-on, detail-driven environment and is committed to upholding the highest standards of care, discretion, and service.
Your Role Will Include:
Art Handling (Primary Function) Move antiques and fine art throughout the gallery; assist with inventory processing, lighting, and merchandising Safely install artworks using various tools and equipment in multiple settings Maintain gallery spaces to meet M.S. Rau's presentation standards Participate in show events, including exhibition setup and breakdown Load and unload trucks; receive, inspect, and condition-check new inventory or offsite acquisitions Deliver items to clients, including unpacking, packing, and setup in homes or offices Shipping & Packing Properly pack, crate, and ship inventory to tradeshows and clients, using industry best practices for one-of-a-kind objects Select archival-quality packing materials suited to each medium, surface, and condition Pack, load, and strap artworks securely for safe transport
Requirements What We're Looking For:
Required:
High school diploma or equivalent Valid driver's license with a clean driving record 3+ years of experience handling antiques and fine art
Preferred:
Bachelor's degree in Art Chauffeur's license Experience handling historical and one-of-a-kind works of art and antiques Ability to operate a 26ft DOT truck Carpentry experience and familiarity with woodworking and power tools
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Demonstrated ability to promote teamwork and collaboration across departments Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy Effective verbal communication and courteous, professional client interaction skills Technical aptitude for minor repairs and art handling equipment use Self-motivated, adaptable, and able to make sound decisions under pressure Strong judgment, trustworthiness, and discretion in handling valuable inventory Ability to operate equipment safely (hand trucks, dollies, forklifts, etc.)
Compensation, Position Type & Travel:
Full-time hourly position with a very competitive compensation range based on abilities and experience plus the potential to earn quarterly and annual bonuses Monday through Friday 8:30 am to 5:15 pm with at least one Saturday per month required - overtime as needed to support business needs Local and out-of-state travel required
