POSITION OVERVIEW
The Production Manager is a senior operations leader responsible for the full lifecycle of manufacturing production — from pre-shift planning through post-shift close-out — across both shifts of a two-shift oral pouch manufacturing operation in Southern California. Reporting directly to C-level leadership, this individual holds full operational accountability for Shift 1 and Shift 2, serving as the strategic hub between the production floor and all supporting departments, including Purchasing, Receiving, Compounding, Quality Control, Warehouse, and Sales. The Production Manager ensures both shifts are fully staffed, supported, and performing at target — maintaining accountability for output quality, schedule adherence, cost control, team performance, and the integration of modern tools including Odoo ERP and AI-powered technologies to drive continuous improvement across the entire production operation. Production Scheduling & Planning Develop, maintain, and continuously optimize a master production schedule aligned with customer demand, raw material availability, and capacity constraints. Publish weekly and daily production plans to all relevant departments; communicate adjustments in real time. Coordinate scheduling with Purchasing and Receiving to ensure raw material and packaging readiness before production runs begin. Collaborate with Sales to prioritize orders, manage lead times, and communicate production commitments accurately. Anticipate and resolve scheduling conflicts across both shifts proactively. Pre-Shift & Post-Shift Accountability Arrive prior to the start of the first shift each day to confirm all production lines are set up, staffed, and ready to run without delay. Remain on-site after production concludes to complete close-out duties: reconcile output against the daily plan, log variances in Odoo, brief the incoming/outgoing Floor Manager, and confirm that all materials, equipment, and documentation are prepared for the next production day. Conduct a daily end-of-day checklist to verify raw material staging, sanitation completion, equipment status, and workforce requirements for the following day. ERP Management — Odoo Serve as the primary production-side user and subject matter expert for Odoo ERP. Maintain accurate manufacturing orders, work orders, bills of materials (BOMs), and inventory transactions within Odoo. Ensure real-time data entry by the floor team and audit Odoo records for accuracy on a daily basis. Leverage Odoo reporting modules to generate production dashboards, efficiency metrics, and inventory consumption reports. Collaborate with IT and C-level leadership on Odoo configuration improvements, module upgrades, and workflow automation. AI & Continuous Improvement Demonstrate working knowledge of AI tools and their application in manufacturing environments, including predictive scheduling, demand forecasting, quality anomaly detection, and process optimization. Champion the adoption of AI-enhanced reporting and workflow automation to reduce manual effort and improve decision-making speed. Stay current on emerging AI tools relevant to CPG and oral product manufacturing; propose and pilot applicable solutions with C-level approval. Use data-driven analysis to identify and eliminate production bottlenecks, waste, and inefficiencies on an ongoing basis. Cross-Departmental Coordination Act as the primary operational liaison between Production and all supporting departments: ◦ Purchasing:
Align production needs with procurement timelines; flag material shortages early. ◦ Receiving:
Confirm incoming material quality and timing against the production schedule. ◦ Compounding:
Coordinate batch readiness and staging to prevent production stoppages. ◦ Quality Control:
Partner on product release, in-process inspections, deviation resolution, and corrective actions. ◦ Warehouse:
Manage finished goods handoff, WIP inventory, and storage capacity. ◦ Sales:
Provide accurate delivery commitments and proactively communicate changes to order timelines. Participate in or lead cross-functional meetings; own action items that affect production throughput. Escalate supply chain disruptions, quality holds, or capacity issues to C-level leadership promptly with a recommended resolution path. Production Reporting Create, distribute, and present daily, weekly, and monthly production reports to C-level leadership covering: output vs. target, efficiency rates, downtime analysis, quality metrics, labor utilization, and schedule adherence. Track and report KPIs including OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness), first-pass yield, line efficiency, and on-time completion rates. Design and maintain production scorecards that enable data-driven decisions at the executive level. Identify trends in production data and present actionable recommendations. Team Leadership & People Management Directly oversee and manage both production shifts — accountable for the performance, safety, and output of Shift 1 and Shift 2 in their entirety. Directly manage and develop Manufacturing Floor Managers assigned to each shift. Ensure seamless handoff between shifts:
review shift-to-shift transition reports, address carryover issues, and confirm the incoming shift is fully briefed and ready to run. Lead workforce planning:
headcount forecasting, shift scheduling, cross-training, and performance management. Establish and reinforce a culture of accountability, safety, quality, and continuous improvement at all levels of the production team. Partner with HR on hiring, onboarding, disciplinary processes, and employee development plans. Conduct regular one-on-ones and performance reviews with direct reports. Safety, Quality & Regulatory Compliance Ensure all production activities comply with applicable federal, state (California), and local regulations, including Cal/OSHA requirements. Enforce GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) and all internal SOPs across both production shifts. Partner with Quality Control on CAPA (Corrective and Preventive Action) processes, customer complaints, and internal audits. Champion a zero-injury safety culture; conduct incident investigations and implement preventive measures. Maintain all required production documentation and batch records in compliance with regulatory and company standards. QUALIFICATIONS
— REQUIRED
Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing, Operations Management, Industrial Engineering, Supply Chain, or a related field; or equivalent experience. 5+ years of progressive experience in manufacturing operations, with at least 2 years in a production management role. Demonstrated proficiency with an ERP system (Odoo experience strongly preferred). Working knowledge of AI tools and their practical application in a manufacturing context. Proven ability to oversee and manage a two-shift manufacturing operation simultaneously, maintaining consistent standards and performance across both shifts. Experience managing multi-shift teams including shift-to-shift coordination, carryover issue resolution, and cross-shift schedule management. Strong command of production reporting, KPI development, and data analysis. Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to present clearly to C-level leadership and cross-functional teams. Experience coordinating across Purchasing, QC, Warehouse, Compounding, and Sales departments. Knowledge of GMP, Cal/OSHA, and lean manufacturing principles. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and/or Google Workspace. QUALIFICATIONS
