Position SummaryThe Production Manager is the senior technical leader of Oasis Arts, responsible for overseeing all technical and production operations across the organization's performance spaces and programming. This includes direct oversight of all technical and production design staff and contractors (including lighting, sound, stage management, scenic design, and AV) and ensuring that every production is realized safely, efficiently, and to the highest artistic standard.
This is a hands-on leadership role that requires both deep technical expertise and the ability to manage people, projects, and budgets across a high-volume, fast-paced performance environment. The Production Manager works in close collaboration with the Artistic Director, Executive Director, Programs Manager, Booking Manager, and Facilities Manager to align technical capacity with Oasis Arts' artistic ambitions.
Key ResponsibilitiesProduction ManagementOversee the production process from pre-production through load-out for all shows and events, ensuring projects are on schedule, on budget, and meeting artistic goalsDevelop and manage production schedules, tech calendars, crew calls, and load-in/load-out plans in coordination with the Booking Manager and Artistic teamServe as primary point of contact with all artists on Production and Technical needs, collaborating with the Booking Manager during contract negotiations and through production execution.
Prepare and manage production budgets, tracking actuals and flagging variances in coordination with the Finance/HR ManagerCoordinate with the Facilities Manager on all production-related building needs, including power, rigging, storage, and accessMaintain accurate records of production costs, crew hours, equipment usage, and vendor contractsTechnical Leadership & OversightServe as the primary technical authority for all Oasis Arts productions, events, and venue operationsOversee and coordinate all technical departments - including lighting, sound, stage management, scenic construction, and projections - across all programming formatsSupervise, schedule, and evaluate all full-time, part-time, and contracted technical and production design staffEstablish and maintain technical standards, workflows, and best practices across the organizationLead technical advance work with incoming artists, touring companies, and co-production partners, reviewing and responding to riders and technical requirementsEquipment & InfrastructureMaintain, inventory, and ensure the safe operation of all production equipment, including lighting rigs, sound systems, follow spots, projectors, and stagingDevelop and oversee a regular maintenance schedule for all technical equipment and infrastructureManage relationships with equipment vendors, rental companies, and technical service providersEvaluate and recommend capital investments in technical infrastructure as the organization growsSafety & ComplianceEnsure all technical operations comply with OSHA standards, Cal/OSHA regulations, and applicable entertainment industry safety protocolsConduct and document safety briefings, hazard assessments, and incident reportsMaintain up-to-date knowledge of entertainment rigging, electrical, and fire safety standardsQualificationsRequired5+ years of technical direction, production management, or equivalent experience in a professional performance venue or touring environmentDeep working knowledge of lighting systems (EOS or comparable console), live sound, stage management, and scenic constructionProven experience supervising and scheduling technical crews across multiple concurrent productionsStrong project management skills and the ability to manage competing priorities in a high-volume environmentCommitment to a safe, inclusive, and collaborative production culturePreferredExperience in queer arts, nightlife venues, drag performance, or non-traditional theatrical formatsFamiliarity with video projection, LED, or immersive production technologiesExperience working in or with LGBTQ+, BIPOC, or community-centered organizationsCompensation & BenefitsCompetitive salary commensurate with experience and organizational scale.
