Job Description

About The LeverThe Lever is a reader-supported investigative news outlet dedicated to following the money and holding the powerful accountable. Founded in 2020 by journalist David Sirota and a team of reporters, The Lever has quickly attracted a robust following thanks to its in-depth investigations and uncompromising analyses of local and national politics, business corruption, Big Tech, climate change, health care, and more. With its rapidly growing subscriber base, The Lever is building a news organization devoted to holding power accountable.

The PositionThe Lever is looking for an experienced, ambitious multimedia video/audio producer for our flagship video/audio show. Reporting to the Video/Audio Director and working alongside our existing team of producers and journalists, the multimedia video/audio producer will drive the production of our video and audio programming. This hands-on role will require advanced proficiency at all stages of multimedia production and participate in editorial direction. The person will pitch story ideas; book and prep for high-profile guests; and write scripts and marketing copy for web, email, and RSS. This person will feel comfortable editing and mixing in video and audio software, as well as interacting with guests during interviews and livestream events.

This is a senior generalist role. The ideal candidate can script a tape-driven narrative opener in the morning, create a prep doc for a host's high-stakes interview in the afternoon, and mix it all into an episode the following day. They can work independently while collaborating with reporters, hosts, editors, and other staff across a small remote team.

This is a full-time, remote salaried position with benefits including a generous health care stipend, office expense reimbursements, and paid time off. QualificationsAt least five years of experience producing weekly podcasts, radio, or video programming.

Demonstrated ability to lead production on multiple concurrent projects, including episodic shows, narrative series, and live events.

Expertise with audio and video editing software like Descript, Hindenburg Pro, Pro Tools, Adobe Audition, Davinci Resolve, or Adobe Premiere Pro, and a working understanding of audio and video production workflows.

Strong audio mixing skills, including dialogue cleanup, leveling, scoring music beds, and incorporating field and archival tape.

Clean and concise writing skills in AP style.

A passion for political and business news, and a sharp sense of which stories will resonate with The Lever's audience.

The ability to use voice, point of view, pop-culture references, and humor to make each episode as engaging as possible without sacrificing journalistic integrity.

A proven track record of working independently and on teams in a fast-paced environment.

The wherewithal to book and professionally manage high-profile speakers and guests, maintain an interview calendar, and coordinate event flow.

Experience translating reporting across a variety of formats — adapting a written essay into a podcast script, pulling archival tape for use in an audio investigation, and cutting interviews into mid-length and short-form social content.

Impeccable organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects and contributors simultaneously.

Commitment to The Lever's subscriber-funded model and approach to accountability journalism.

The passion, imagination, and ambition needed to build a transformative news organization.
