Job Description
About the BulwarkThe Bulwark isn't just a business, it's a mission. We're a fast-growing media company founded to provide analysis and reporting in defense of liberal democracy. Our podcasts, newsletters, and videos cut through the noise to deliver sharp, independent analysis.
Inside The Bulwark, we live by a few simple rules: candor over spin, collaboration over ego, and a commitment to making each other better. We're a nimble, fast-moving team that takes our work seriously—but not ourselves.
We're looking for a Producer to join our team and help drive three of our flagship programs. About the Role This role owns day-to-day production and distribution operations for the Illegal News with Sarah Longwell podcast, The Next Level podcast and its sister subscriber offering, The Secret Podcast. Reporting to the Head of Shows, you'll be the operational backbone of three of The Bulwark's most prominent programs, making sure every episode reaches its audience in the best possible form.
What You'll DoOwn scheduling, project management, and day-to-day workflow coordination across shows, keeping production timelines on track and stakeholders informed and aligned.
Source and pull visual elements for episodes (images, B-roll), ensuring appropriate usage and attribution. Own quality control (QC) of episodes and the workflow for publishing across our platforms. Conduct real-time and post-production fact-checking, in partnership with other producers and the Head of Shows.
Prepare all ad assets for hosts and video editors, ensuring quality control for ad reads and ad placement in episodes.
Create and manage short-form clips in partnership with the video and social teams, identifying strong moments, ensuring QC, preparing them for distribution, and coordinating rollout and platform presence.
Write show copy, titles, and thumbnail text; support thumbnail production as needed.
Monitor distribution across platforms, flag issues, and ensure content is published correctly and on schedule.
Monitor livestreams during broadcasts, providing hosts with relevant information in real time and flagging breaking news opportunities to the Head of Shows, Director of Video, producers, and hosts.
Support show promotion strategies in partnership with editorial, programming, and social teams to grow audience reach and engagement.
What You Bring 4-6 years of experience in digital media production, with a track record of owning operational and distribution workflows.
Deep understanding of video, social, and audio platforms and what drives engagement.
Strong organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail, with the ability to manage complex workflows and competing priorities.
Familiarity with Adobe Premiere, Photoshop, and Illustrator, along with experience or interest in YouTube optimization best practices, including thumbnail production.
Comfort working in a fast-paced production environment with tight timelines and frequent deadlines.
Strong editorial judgement. A deep interest in politics, current events, and media, and a passion for The Bulwark's mission and work.
Clear, proactive communication skills and a team-first attitude.
What We OfferWe want people at The Bulwark to thrive.
Interested? We'd love to hear from you. Submit your resume and a brief cover note.
