ROLE SUMMARY
Want to be a part of one of Hawaiʻi's most important crops, while working alongside a talented team in the coffee industry? Big Island Coffee Roasters is seeking a full-time Production Manager to lead our roasting and fulfillment team. You'll be an integral part of daily operations, responsible for supervising end-to-end execution of roasted coffee production — from roasting coordination through packaging and order fulfillment. This is a hands-on leadership role for a systems-minded individual. You will be responsible for daily production, team performance, cost control, and building scalable systems that streamline workflows and support capacity for growth year over year. Must be available full time Sunday- Thursday.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
Team Leadership & Accountability Lead & manage operations team across roasting, packaging, and fulfillment Own hiring, onboarding, training, performance reviews, and terminations Set and track individual KPIs; conduct quarterly reviews and ongoing coaching Manage scheduling to align labor with production demand; review and approve timesheets Streamline Production Flow & Ensure Fulfillment Accuracy Own daily and weekly production planning based on order volume and demand forecasts; Facilitate timely order fulfillment across online, wholesale, and café channels Organize roasting, packaging and shipment workflows based on order priorities Ensure freshness and reduce bottlenecks by aligning roast schedule with fulfillment Establish systems, processes and tools that minimize inefficiencies Guarantee accurate picking, packing, labeling, and shipping Own and optimize workflows within shipping software; Ensure shipment cost control, and carrier rate alignment Coordinate with marketing on upcoming promotions; surface logistics or inventory constraints proactively Manage Inventory & Resources Manage critical inventory Forecast and reorder to prevent stock-outs Maintain and ensure all production and fulfillment-related equipment remains operational; Perform basic troubleshooting; coordinate repairs and minimize downtime Develop Systems, Maintain SOPs & Ensure Quality Standards Audit, update, and enforce SOPs across all production functions Develop systems, processes and procedures that reduce errors and inefficiencies Ensure shipments and products meet quality standards Maintain a clean, organized, and audit-ready production environment Build systems that reduce dependency on tribal knowledge Systems development Develop systems and documented work flows that reduce dependencies This position description intends to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this job. Key Traits Hands-on — comfortable working on the production floor daily, not just managing from a desk Organized and detail-oriented — errors in coffee weights, labels, and orders have direct customer impact Process-driven — builds repeatable systems instead of relying on memory Decisive and accountable — owns outcomes, not just activities Clear communicator — sets expectations explicitly and follows through Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy Ability to maintain pace and output in a high-volume environment Works well individually and with a team Can safely lift 50 lbs. unassisted Excellent communication skills Required Experience 3+ years in production or manufacturing leadership (food & beverage strongly preferred) Demonstrated experience managing small to mid-sized teams Familiarity with batch-based manufacturing (roasting, food production, or similar) Experience with fulfillment and shipping systems Strong inventory management and workflow documentation experienceBENEFITS
