Southern Illinois University Carbondale is an NCAA Division I member of the Missouri Valley and Missouri Valley Football Conferences. We are currently seeking to hire an Athletics Communications Associate Video Tech/Game day Producer. The Video Tech/Game day Producer is responsible for the technical execution, operation, and enhancement of all video board and in-venue display systems for SIU Athletics. This position oversees live-event production, directs video board shows, troubleshoots equipment, and manages the performance, maintenance, and reliability of video, graphics, camera, and control-room systems. The primary goal is to deliver a seamless, high-quality fan experience while continually expanding capabilities and improving the overall game day environment for fans and student-athletes. Examples of Duties The Video Tech/Game day Producer is responsible for the technical execution, operation, and enhancement of all video board and in-venue display systems for SIU Athletics. This position oversees live-event production, directs video board shows, troubleshoots equipment, and manages the performance, maintenance, and reliability of video, graphics, camera, and control-room systems. The primary goal is to deliver a seamless, high-quality fan experience while continually expanding capabilities and improving the overall game day environment for fans and student-athletes. In Venue Video Production & Gameday Direction Direct live videoboard shows, including camera feeds, replays, scoreboard graphics, fan prompts, and sponsor elements. Operate and oversee all control-room technology, including switching systems, replay servers, and graphics playback devices. Ensure all gameday production elements run smoothly, accurately, and on schedule. Technical Operations, Systems Engineering & Troubleshooting Maintain and test videoboard systems, LED displays, control-room hardware, video routers, switchers, cabling, and related AV infrastructure. Troubleshoot technical issues in real time before, during, and after events. Perform routine diagnostics, firmware updates, calibration, and system optimization. Document equipment performance, failures, repairs, and recommended upgrades. Camera & Graphics System Management
  • Operate and oversee multi-camera setups, including broadcast cameras, PTZ units, handhelds, lenses, and related accessories.
  • Ensure graphics systems, overlays, sponsor content, and motion assets are correctly integrated and functional. Work with creative staff to prepare content for various display formats and resolutions. Workflow Development & System Innovation
  • Analyze current production workflows and identify inefficiencies or limitations.
  • Recommend and assist in planning upgrades to video control rooms, videoboards, cameras, and supporting infrastructure.
Research industry best practices and emerging technologies to elevate the gameday presentation. Collaboration & Student Training Recruit, train, and supervise student staff on camera operation, control-room systems, graphics execution, and technical roles. Create and maintain SOPs for production equipment, gameday execution, and emergency troubleshooting. Collaborate with marketing, communications, and external partners, and event operations staff to support unified game presentation goals. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in journalism, sports communications, sports marketing, sports management, public relations, communications, English, or a related field. One (1) year (12 months) of professional experience working with a university athletics department in its setup and execution of live game day presentations and television broadcasts, including work as a graduate assistant, contracted employee, or member of the staff, during basketball, football, soccer, volleyball, softball, and baseball seasons.
Note:
Master's Degree in an area consistent with the duties of the position may be substituted for one (1) year (12 months) of work experience.

About Civil Service Examination/Testing:
The Civil Service examination for this classification is based on your application materials and responses to the supplemental questions. No participation other than submission of application materials is required from applicants that qualify to take the exam. If you meet the minimum required qualifications for this position, your application will move forward for examination/testing in which you will receive a score calculated based on your education and experience, and your name will be placed on the active employment register by exam score.
