Production Manager About Bay Motor Products Bay Motor Products is a dynamic, high-mix, light manufacturer. We pride ourselves on agility, precision, and quality. We are looking for a dedicated leader to join our team and help drive our operations to the next level. Job Summary We are seeking a forward-thinking Production Manager with a passion for optimizing production and scaling high-performance teams. In this role, you will lead daily manufacturing operations, drive continuous improvement, and serve as a strong, collaborative member of our core management team. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader who leads by example, leverages Lean Manufacturing methodologies, and can successfully navigate the fast-paced demands of a high-mix job shop environment.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities Operations & Scheduling:
Organize and oversee daily manufacturing activities to meet production schedules and ensure shipping deadlines are consistently achieved in a high-mix job shop environment.
Strategic Leadership:
Partner actively as a strong member of the management team to align production goals with broader company objectives and growth strategies.
Resource Allocation:
Assign daily tasks to production employees, cell technicians, and material handlers to maximize efficiency.
Performance Tracking:
Manage departmental performance metrics (KPIs) using visual controls; provide regular progress reports to the rest of the management team.
Continuous Improvement:
Utilize Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement (CI) tools to identify root causes, analyze results, and optimize operating procedures.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
Partner with Quality Assurance and Engineering teams to troubleshoot and resolve production issues.
Safety & Compliance:
Maintain a clean, safe, and secure shop environment. Ensure strict adherence to quality standards, document work-related incidents, and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
Team Leadership & Scaling Team Scaling & Development:
Build, scale, and mentor high-performance production teams. Manage employee training programs and maintain accurate training records.
Performance Management:
Drive effective employee relations, conduct performance evaluations, and make informed employment decisions.
Administrative Oversight:
Manage shift scheduling, vacation/personal time approvals, and daily absenteeism reporting.
Qualifications & Experience Education:
Associate degree (or equivalent from a college, university, or technical school), or an equivalent combination of education and hands-on manufacturing experience.
Experience:
Proven track record of leadership in a manufacturing environment (experience in a high-mix/low-volume or job shop environment is a major plus).
Lean Expertise:
Strong application knowledge of Lean Manufacturing techniques and related Continuous Improvement tools is required.
Leadership Traits:
A forward-thinking mindset with a proven ability to uphold accountability, scale teams, and make objective, data-driven decisions.
