Full-time Job Title:
Production Planning & Purchasing Manager Reports to:
Plant Operations Director FLSA Status:
Exempt (Salaried), ineligible for Overtime Pay Full-time, Year-Round Position.
Job Summary:
The Production Planning and Purchasing Manager is responsible for developing the daily production plan for plant operations. A key function of the role is laying out the loadout schedule for all farms to ensure sales objectives and commitments of finished products are completed on time. This position will also be responsible for managing inventory to include procurement activities for all packaging and ingredients needed to complete the production schedule.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
This role has one direct report, the warehouse/packaging team member maintains inventory of all packaging and ingredients as well as receiving and shipment of non-production items.
Essential Functions:
Reinforces and promotes a culture of safe work practices and ensures the work environment is safe within areas of responsibility, and across the company. Maintains or develops partnerships with all packaging and ingredient vendors to ensure lead times are understood and materials arrive in sufficient time to facilitate production while minimizing carrying costs. Plans catching schedule and production schedule minimum of 2 weeks out with an overall annual schedule done and adjusted for the entire season. Interacts with all growers, production team and vendors to ensure adjustments are made timely and when necessary to achieve sales/production plans. Ensures the production plan and adjustments will include cost minimization and maximizing yields throughout the operation. Communicates proactively with growers on loading plans and updates as well as ensuring pre-harvest samples are collected and results in prior to loadout date. Handles the setup and maintenance of product sku's and labels. Plans and communicates the daily production schedule with plant team members and manages the staging of packaging materials and ingredients to achieve plan. Monitors production throughout shift to ensure yields are maximized, and production plan is achieved and overruns/rework are eliminated. Utilizes the off-season to assist in plant preparation and improvement projects, focus on strategic or business planning likely to include being involved in demand forecasting, building out the master schedule for the upcoming season, and researching new supplier products and vendors to prepare for the upcoming peak season. Analyzes production and purchasing data both during the season and during the off-season to improve operational efficiency, balance supply inventory, and to proactively ensure future supply chain logistic challenges are minimized.
Required Skills and Abilities:
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint). Strong data and analytical abilities. Organizational and time management. Ability to understand complex processes and production process flows. Strong interpersonal skills with ability to influence and direct varying departments and levels of team members. Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with hourly team members and senior leadership both verbally and in writing. Problem solving abilities. Flexibility with work hours as needed for business operations. General hours of role will align with bagging/boxing operation 7:30am to 5:30pm.
Education and Experience:
A minimum of 5 years of experience working in poultry/food processing operation or a complex CPG environment is preferred. Previous leadership experience is preferred.
Physical Requirements:
Position requires extended periods working at a computer, up to entire shifts. Position also requires time on production floor up to entire shifts where walking long distances, climbing ladders, bending, crouching, lifting moderate weights (up to 50 pounds), and working in a sometimes cold, wet, and noisy environment, while wearing required protective gear will be required.
