Reports To Executive Producer, Shows & Podcasts Job Overview WAMC is seeking a dynamic producer to be the daily engine behind some of the station's most distinctive programs, including The Roundtable, an award-winning, nationally recognized daily talk program, featuring news, interviews, in-depth discussion, music, and more! This role requires the ability to excel at speed, with editorial agility, and live-broadcast composure, but also prioritizes depth, preparation, and the ability to build an interview that goes somewhere. The person in this role also supervises junior production staff, sets the editorial standard for the team, and serves as a key editorial partner to the Executive Producer. We're looking for someone with live production experience, genuine curiosity about the news, culture, deep roots in or connection to this region, and the steadiness to help lead a team through the pressure of daily broadcast. This is a demanding dual-program role. On any given day, the Senior Producer may be building a Roundtable rundown in the morning, editing a pre-taped interview in the afternoon, confirming panelist availability, troubleshooting a last-minute cancellation, and sending social copy to the digital team—all before noon. The pace is real, the stakes are real, and the work matters to the communities we serve. If you find daily live production energizing, if you have genuine enthusiasm culture and ideas, and if you're ready to help lead a team while doing some of the best work of your career, we want to hear from you. Responsibilities and Duties
- Own the daily broadcast: generate and pitch story ideas, work with the host to build the run-of-show, help write prep and scripts, book guests, and monitor live execution in real time
- Collaborate daily with host, news team, and editorial staff on segment ideas and scheduling
- Troubleshoot issues during live broadcast and communicate clearly with the host and technical team under pressure
- Identify and cultivate recurring contributors—regional experts, and community voices who bring depth and consistency to the program
- Produce the weekly Book Show from pitch to air (manage the production calendar for the Book Show, balancing timely titles with enduring literary conversation)
- Develop thorough, substantive host prep for every interview—research that goes beyond the press release
- Conduct in-depth interviews and host as needed
- Edit, mix, and distribute recorded interviews to professional public radio standards
- Prepare, engineer, record, and travel for remote Book Show tapings as needed
- Pitch and appear on-air during fund drives as needed
- Assist in the construction of fund drive clocks and programming schedules
- Assist with election coverage and other special programming
- Fill in as host on The Roundtable and Vox Pop as needed
- Record and produce promos and other short-form content
- Host or emcee live events on behalf of WAMC
- Collaborate with On the Road team for Roundtable and other remote broadcasts, tapings, and events
- Supervise junior production staff: assign work, provide editorial guidance, review output, and support professional development
- Serve as a first point of escalation for editorial questions, production challenges, and day-of logistics
- Collaborate with the EP on workflow design, editorial priorities, and staffing across both shows
- Model a high standard of craft—in preparation, storytelling, and execution—for the production team Qualifications
- 4+ years of experience producing a daily live radio show, broadcast news program, or equivalent. Public radio experience strongly preferred
- Demonstrated experience supervising or mentoring junior production staff
- Genuine love of culture—and the ability to turn that enthusiasm into compelling radio
- Strong editorial judgment across both fast-turnaround news and longer-form interview formats
- Genuine roots in or deep familiarity with the Capital Region, Hudson Valley, Adirondacks, Vermont, Connecticut, and/or the Berkshires. You don't need to have grown up here—but you need to care about this place specifically
- Exceptional composure and time management under the daily pressure of live production
- Experience booking guests and building relationships with publicists, literary agents, community organizations, and other professionals
- Commitment to telling stories from communities that public radio has historically underserved—including younger listeners, communities of color, working-class and rural voices across our coverage area
- Excellent communication skills; able to give clear, actionable feedback to staff and communicate crisply with hosts and engineers during live air
- Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Media Studies, English, or a related field—or equivalent hands-on experience.
