Position:
This position plays a key role in supporting the success of Colorado Matters and Colorado Public Radio by producing timely, relevant content that serves audiences across the state. In addition to developing segments for the daily program, the content the Senior Producer creates may also be adapted for newscasts on CPR and KRCC, as well as for digital and social platforms. The role brings added depth to the team through the ability to line produce the full show, managing production workflows, communication, and logistics. Based in Southern Colorado, this position also expands opportunities to source and produce stories beyond the Denver metro area, helping ensure more comprehensive, statewide coverage. The new hire is expected to reside in Southern Colorado upon starting - this is not a remote position.
About You:
Audio is your passion. You've produced compelling audio storytelling and bring experience across every stage of production - from researching and pitching stories to editing, mixing, meeting tight deadlines, and conducting quality control. You have familiarity working in daily news environments. Curious, adaptable, and committed to inclusivity, you ensure your work serves audiences with different backgrounds and interests. Collaboration and communication are central to how you work; you give and receive feedback effectively, keep teammates informed, and make quick editorial decisions without sacrificing attention to detail. You approach work with a positive attitude and are willing to try new approaches to keep both content and processes fresh and effective.
Minimum Qualifications:
A minimum of 5 years experience in journalism and audio production, including scripting and mixing. A strong understanding of journalistic standards and ethics, with demonstrated ability to write clearly and effectively for both radio/podcast and for digital media. Proficiency with audio editing software (such as Adobe Audition). Familiarity with long-form news production, including experience with project or show planning, navigating deadlines, and responding to breaking news. Proven ability to work collaboratively and communicate with clarity across teams and projects. Interest in social media and audience engagement, with the ability to support audience growth through digital platforms.

A fully relatable bachelor's or master's degree may replace some of the required years of experience needed to qualify for the position, but is not required for the role. Even if you don't meet every qualification listed, we're interested in candidates who can bring unique skills, perspectives, and experiences to the role. At Colorado Public Radio, we are committed to building a diverse, inclusive, equitable and authentic workplace.
