THE ROLE
The Production Manager is responsible for leading the daily operations of RMS BJ Superior's manufacturing and repair facility while ensuring the highest standards of safety, quality, delivery, and operational excellence. This role provides leadership across machining, Babbitt casting, assembly, inspection, and seal manufacturing activities while developing the business acumen, operational leadership, and strategic decision-making capabilities.

Skilled in leading and supporting initiatives aimed at improving process efficiency and minimizing downtime. The capability to track and analyze key performance indicators related to productivity, cost, quality, and safety to drive informed improvements.
PRIMARY ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
Act as a key member of the site leadership team, contributing to long-term planning, business objectives, and organizational success. Responsible for understanding and complying with the safety policy, procedures, and instructions. Drive adherence to company policies and the RMS Employee Handbook, address workplace concerns professionally, partner with Human Resources when necessary, and foster a positive, accountable team environment. Ensure on-time completion of Performance Evaluations and perform regular maintenance to Employee Skill & Training Matrix. Lead and coordinate daily activities of machining, Babbitt casting, assembly, seal manufacturing, and inspection personnel to ensure quality, productivity, and on-time delivery objectives are achieved. Assist Quality Control personnel in trouble-shooting NCRs or with RCAs as needed. Work closely with Operations, Engineering, Scheduling, and Project Management teams to prioritize workloads and meet customer delivery commitments. Coach craft labor during disassembly, inspection, repair, and assembly of complex rotating equipment. Maximize "utilization" while ensuring shop resources are working on scheduled tasks while understanding job priorities. Attend production meetings, giving updates and suggestions, as necessary. Identify opportunities for standardization with respect to work practices and routers. Coordinate preventive maintenance activities for machine tools, Babbitt casting systems, and other critical production assets. Maintain familiarity with hydrodynamic journal bearings, thrust bearings, labyrinth seals, oil seals, and related turbomachinery components used in compressors, turbines, motors, pumps, and other rotating equipment. Interpret engineering drawings, specifications, manufacturing routers, inspection reports, and repair procedures to ensure products meet customer and engineering requirements. Develop a working knowledge of Babbitt casting processes, precision machining operations, bearing assembly, seal manufacturing, and dimensional inspection practices. Communicate with supervision, crafts, and Project Managers during the inspection and repair process. Must have excellent organizational skills. Expert in use of precision measuring equipment (mic, caliper, etc.). Lead by example in promoting teamwork, accountability, continuous improvement, and employee development. Support overtime, weekend, and holiday work requirements as necessary to meet customer commitments and production demands. Develop succession plans for key shop positions and actively support employee growth and career development. Ability and willingness to be in the shop environment a minimum of 8 hours per day, primarily standing and sitting, as required. Ability and willingness to work around and use large propane / acetylene torches. Ability to operate small lifts, pallet jacks, and other lifting equipment. Strong oral and written communication skills. Basic computer and math skills.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS
15+ years in relevant turbomachinery industry in shop environment. Strong machining knowledge required. Strong leadership, organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
REQUIRED EDUCATION
High School Diploma or equivalent from an accredited institution. Post High School degree in a mechanical related field is a plus.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
This position will be based full-time in our BJ Superior facility located in South Houston, TX This is a full-time position, with a minimum expectation of 40 hours per week. Additional hours, including evenings or weekends, may be required based on project needs. Ability and willingness to lift objects weighing up to 30 lbs. (50 lbs. with assistance), walk, climb, reach, kneel, crawl, and balance. Must be able to use hands for assembly and tool usage. While performing the duties of this position the employee will be required to stand, sit, bend, and walk for significant portions of the shift. Must not have allergies or issues related to handling metals including aluminum, copper, bronze, and steel. This position can be required to participate in the company random or customer specific drug and alcohol screening and background check. Able to understand, read, write, and speak English. Authorized to work in the United States. RMS Inc. may have government contracts that impose specific requirements on employees working on those projects. If an employee does not meet these requirements, they may be reassigned to a different location or be ineligible to work on certain assignments.
Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this position, the employee will be regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. While the work area may be described as generally clean, safe, and "not loud", there will be machining operations that generate moderate noise and metal particles.
