This is a program held through Community Kiln, a part of SMOC, for the months of June, July and August. Students will have access to our ceramics equipment (including 12 wheels, 4 handbuilding tables, slab roller, wedging table, underglazes, 4 electric kilns and 20 glazes) during any open studio hours. We are a cone 6, electric studio. Your first bag of clay is free. Students must purchase their own clay at $28 for second through fourth bag (each) and $40 for a fifth/sixth bag, limit 6 bags for the Summer.WE DO NOT FIRE OUTSIDE CLAY.
The intention of this offering is for students studying ceramics in higher education to have a space to continue their artistic practices over the summer, and build their knowledge of ceramic studios, operations and ceramics as a whole. The College Level Studio Membership will be for the months of June, July and August at no cost for all three months. For this heavily discounted program, studio members are asked to volunteer 2-5 hours a week in our studio. You will coordinate with the program manager directly to find times, dates and tasks that are appropriate to your time at the studio. Assorted tasks include, but are not limited to, wedging clay, cleaning, shadowing, helping kid's classes, open studio monitoring, mixing glazes, etc. All tasks are designed to help further your knowledge of ceramics and assist in your overall practice. College internship credit through your university can be coordinated, if applicable. Applications are open to students that are studying ceramics in a higher education setting, or any related fields. This program is held at Community Kiln, 46 Park St. Framingham, MA. Submissions are due April 30th at 11:59PM and 1 chosen recipient will be contacted by May 10th via email. Qualifications- Be studying ceramics (or a related field) in a 2 or 4 year program
- Willingness to volunteer 2-5 hours a week in our studio. We are flexible with vacation dates, etc.
- Transportation to our Framingham, MA location
- Acceptance of participation by May 10th, 2026
- Attend a mandatory information session before independent work
