Project-based or monthly retainer, depending on scope Reports to: LASKO Team / Client Lead About the Role LASKO is looking for a sharp, strategic, and well-connected Startup Publicist to support founders, emerging companies, and innovation-driven brands in building credibility, visibility, and momentum. This role is ideal for someone who understands the startup ecosystem — from founder storytelling and funding announcements to product launches, investor credibility, category positioning, and thought leadership. You know how to take a company that is building something interesting and turn it into a story that media, investors, customers, and industry insiders actually care about. You should be equally comfortable crafting a founder narrative, pitching business and tech reporters, identifying timely angles, and helping early-stage companies show up with polish and authority. This is not just a press release role. We're looking for someone who can think strategically, spot the hook, and help shape the public-facing story of startups at key growth moments. Responsibilities Develop and execute PR strategies for startup clients, founders, and emerging brands Craft compelling founder stories, company narratives, launch angles, and media hooks Pitch relevant media across business, tech, entrepreneurship, consumer, trade, and local outlets Support announcements including product launches, funding news, partnerships, executive hires, milestones, and market expansion Write and/or edit press releases, media pitches, founder bios, press materials, talking points, and briefing documents Identify timely opportunities for founder commentary, expert quotes, podcast appearances, contributed articles, and speaking opportunities Build and maintain targeted media lists based on each client's industry, stage, and goals Coordinate interviews, media requests, and follow-ups with professionalism and urgency Help position founders as credible voices in their category Stay current on startup trends, venture capital news, founder-led brands, emerging technology, and relevant industry conversations Collaborate with the LASKO team to align PR strategy with broader brand, marketing, and business goals Ideal Background Experience in startup, tech, founder, business, venture, consumer, or innovation-focused PR Strong media relationships across business, tech, startup, entrepreneurship, or relevant trade publications Proven ability to turn early-stage company news into clear, compelling media angles Experience working with founders, executives, or high-growth brands Strong writing skills across press materials, pitches, bios, and thought leadership content Comfortable working in fast-moving, sometimes ambiguous startup environments Able to balance strategy with execution Highly organized, responsive, and confident managing multiple client priorities Understands how PR supports credibility, fundraising, customer trust, recruiting, and brand awareness You Might Be a Fit If You… Know the difference between "we launched a product" and "here's why this matters right now" Can make a founder's story feel credible, human, and media-worthy Understand what reporters need and don't waste their time Are comfortable working with early-stage companies that may still be refining their message Can help a startup look polished without making it sound overproduced Have a strong sense of timing, positioning, and newsworthiness Like working with ambitious founders who are building from the ground up Can move quickly without sacrificing quality Nice to Have Relationships with reporters at business, tech, venture, startup, entrepreneurship, consumer, or trade outlets Experience supporting funding announcements, accelerator/demo day visibility, founder profiles, or product launches Familiarity with industries such as SaaS, consumer startups, AI, wellness, hospitality tech, fintech, creator economy, or CPG Experience securing podcast placements, contributed articles, speaking opportunities, or award submissions Understanding of how PR can support fundraising, partnerships, hiring, and investor perception What Success Looks Like A successful Startup Publicist will help LASKO's clients show up with a stronger, clearer, and more credible public presence. You'll help founders sharpen their story, identify the right media opportunities, and earn attention that supports real business goals — not just press for the sake of press. You'll know how to take a startup's momentum and translate it into visibility that builds trust with customers, investors, partners, and the broader market.
