Job Description

The VIN News Service is an independent, advertising-free source of news about the veterinary community in the United States and around the world. Established in 2008, VIN News is supported solely by the Veterinary Information Network (VIN), an international online professional membership community with offices in Davis, California. The VIN News Service staff is entirely remote but visits the Davis office as needed. We are looking for experienced, detail-oriented journalists with an investigative bent. If you have spent at least four years reporting full-time in any of the following areas, we'd like to hear from you: medicine, science, health care policy, education, technology, law or business. A background in narrating articles for audio is a plus, as is storytelling on social media. We also welcome hearing from international correspondents and individuals who have edited and supervised reporters. At the outset, we hire on a freelance basis and pay per piece. Following a trial period, freelancers may have an opportunity to contract for a mutually agreed-upon number of hours per week. Contractors have the potential to become full-time staff. Learn more about the VIN News Service by visiting our website. To apply, write a cover letter describing how your experience and skills are good fit for the VIN News Service, and submit three clips with a brief explanation why you've chosen to share each one. Send to newseditors@vin.com with the subject line Application. Submissions will be reviewed on a rolling basis.
