Job Description
Apply Job Type Full-time Description The Embarcadero Media Foundation is seeking a sharp, curious and committed journalist to join our award-winning newsroom as a Peninsula Staff Writer, covering some of the Bay Area's most dynamic communities — including Mountain View, Redwood City, Palo Alto, Menlo Park, Atherton, Portola Valley and Woodside. This writing position will be focused on the Mid-Peninsula, and will report on public policy, community issues, city government, housing, transportation, environment and the people shaping our region. The reporter will produce stories for our network of local news sites — including Mountain View Voice, The Almanac and Redwood City Pulse, Palo Alto Online and the weekly print editions of The Almanac and Palo Alto Weekly. We're looking for a reporter with a knack for enterprise and accountability reporting, who can turn around a breaking news brief on deadline and then dig into deeper, meaningful stories that reflect the needs and concerns of our diverse communities. An ability to be flexible and to dive into new issues every day will be key. The full-time job pays $23 to $27 an hour and includes health benefits and a 403(b) savings plan. It is a union position.
What You'll Do:
Report and write daily news and longer-form enterprise stories for a digital-first newsroom Monitor city council and school board meetings, watchdog local agencies and track regional trends Develop and maintain source relationships across the mid-Peninsula File stories on deadline for our Express daily newsletters Occasionally contribute to live events and contribute video or multimedia storytelling, and post to social media Collaborate with staff visual journalists on special reporting projects Engage readers through social media and respond to community feedback Occasionally assist with foundation events and community forumsRequirements What We're Looking For:
2+ years of professional reporting experience Strong writing, reporting and interviewing skills Comfort filing PRA requests and pursuing public records An understanding of AP Style Strong organizational skills and a proactive attitude Spanish fluency and/or familiarity with San Mateo and Santa Clara counties is a plusTo Apply:
