Job descriptionHartford Business Journal is seeking a full-time staff writer based in Fairfield County to cover one of Connecticut's most active business markets.

The ideal candidate is an experienced journalist with strong reporting and multimedia skills, a sharp instinct for news, and the ability to generate compelling story ideas for a business audience. This reporter will be responsible for breaking news, enterprise reporting and feature stories focused on Fairfield County's business community, including major employers, startups, real estate development, banking, health care, professional services and economic trends.

Candidates must live in Fairfield County or the immediate surrounding area and be comfortable building relationships with business leaders, public officials, entrepreneurs and other key sources throughout the region.

The staff writer will contribute daily to HBJ's digital platforms, including newsletters and breaking news coverage, while also producing in-depth stories and features for the print publication.

The right hire is enterprising, organized and self-directed, with the ability to manage multiple deadlines and switch seamlessly between fast-turn daily reporting and longer-form journalism.

This role requires someone comfortable interviewing everyone from Fortune 500 executives to small business owners, developers, investors and civic leaders.
