Job Description
Job Description:
The Boston Globe is hiring a reporter to cover higher education in Boston and greater New England. For a reporter eager to drive the conversation on higher education, a better beat is hard to come by. Our region boasts some of the most elite institutions in the country, which frequently makes it ground zero for national stories. At the same time, the state is rich with public institutions and community colleges whose work is crucial in shaping the future of our economy and citizenry. This beat is sprawling and nationally competitive. We need a reporter who can break news and chase stories on deadline, but also pitch and deliver ambitious, thoughtful, and provocative enterprise. Data and statistics are easy to come by in the education world, but they are incomplete without human stories that illuminate the faces behind the trends, and the kind of sharp analysis that has long been the hallmark of the Globe's higher ed coverage. The successful candidate will be a team player who genuinely enjoys collaborating with journalists across the newsroom.Responsibilities:
Produce high-impact journalism, both daily and enterprise. Cover breaking news as needed with speed and accuracy Work with visual and digital specialists to create rich, unforgettable displays, and embrace alternative storytelling formats.Qualifications:
At least 3-5 years experience as a journalist at a major market or publication Ability to write clean, compelling copy on deadline A skilled writer who can elevate good stories into great ones Adaptable and enterprising A team player who thrives in a group setting A willingness to adapt and be audience focused, with a curious mindset and a commitment to creating an inclusive work environment The BGMP office is located in downtown Boston, near Faneuil Hall and Quincy Market, and is easily accessible by MBTA and commuter rail lines. This position is based in Boston, and candidates should be based in the area or willing to move. The hourly rate for this role is $38.41 - $61.53 This position is a union position covered by a collective bargaining agreement with the Boston Newspaper Guild.
