The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. Position Type Full-Time/Regular WBUR is a leader in public media offering an exciting and creative work environment. We look for ambitious and dedicated people passionate about public media. WBUR is looking for a reporter with a passion for covering the news and uncovering original and compelling stories that matter to our community. We hold our reporting to high standards, we love great storytelling, and we like to have fun too. We need a reporter who thrives on covering Beacon Hill, state political news, including the governor and governors office, the state legislature, and everything else state politics. This reporter will lead WBURs coverage of the 2026 gubernatorial race. We want a reporter able to develop scoops, produce regular enterprise stories that will distinguish WBURs journalism on a competitive beat, and respond quickly and smartly to breaking news. The position requires source-building and covering activity at the State House in person, as well as reviewing documents and data and submitting public records requests. The reporter will work closely with editors to set priorities and pursue dailies and shorter-term pieces along with longer-term stories requiring deeper research and reporting. WBUR prides itself on telling compelling stories in multiple formats, including audio, digital, live events, social (including video) and more. The ideal candidate is someone who is passionate about reaching audiences in innovative ways. They know how to build sources across a diverse constituency and drive competitive, enterprise coverage. If you're hungry for scoops, ready to meet tight daily deadlines, regularly file for newscast and digital, and take some deeper dives too, this is the opportunity for you. This position is covered under our collective bargaining agreement with the
SAG-AFTRA
union and the minimum annual salary for this position is $71,250. Additionally, when compensation is being evaluated for a candidate finalist, that amount can increase as experience and internal equity are factored into the offer amount.
Required Skills:
Passion for public media journalism Strong editorial judgment Ability to cover a wide variety of stories and assignments Experience producing stories for multiple platforms Strong research and organizational skills Communicates clearly in all forms Fluency in multiple languages a plus Required Skills At least three to six years of related experience. Candidates who demonstrate a higher level of experience, expertise, and independence may be considered for a position at the Senior Reporter level. Final title and level will be determined based on the selected candidate's qualifications and experience.
