The state has a unique mix of energy, and many North Dakotaenergy stories have drawn national attention, such as the Dakota AccessPipeline protests, energy development near Theodore Roosevelt National Park andthe proposed Summit Carbon Solutions regional carbon dioxide pipeline. The successful candidate will cover developments in theBakken oil fields; coal, with North Dakota home to the single-largest depositof lignite in the world; and wind energy, in which North Dakota is a leadingstate. Emerging areas of interest are carbon capture and sequestrationtechnology, biofuels, and rare earths/critical minerals.

The beat also includes coverage of business in the Bismarckmetro area and also the state. Bismarck is a medical hub for the region, withtwo competing hospital systems, and North Dakota is an emerging hot spot forcryptocurrency data centers.

The Bismarck Tribune is an award-winning newspaper thattakes pride in being a leader in energy coverage and is not afraid to take oncomplex projects. We prefer candidates with previous reporting experience butwill consider strong recent graduates. The job is 40 hours a week withoccasional night and weekend work required.

The position is based in Bismarck, the state'ssecond-largest city. Bismarck and neighboring Mandan are along the MissouriRiver with miles of trails for outdoor recreation along with a growing food andculture scene. The region also offers prime hunting and fishing opportunitiesand is an easy drive to a national park. Bismarck-Mandan is a fun place to liveand work with the amenities of a big city without the traffic and high cost ofliving.
