Job Description

Local SportsReporter-Omaha, NEThe Omaha World-Herald seeks an ambitious, versatile,energetic journalist to join our award-winning team covering our robust sportsscene in a major metro area. OWH Sports, annually recognized by APSE as one of thenation's top sports sections, has a role that includes blending coverage ofpreps — especially volleyball and basketball — and strong, timely stories onthe best college and pro sports stories in town.

Omaha loves its sports and has the College World Series,two pro volleyball teams, a Triple-A baseball team, a USL men's soccer team —with a women's team likely on the way — college hockey in the NCAA's toughestleague, and more.

We seek a writer who can balance structure on the prepsside with the opportunity to stretch your wings to pursue and report funfeatures that go beyond the field of play and pivot toward teams that arehaving big, exciting seasons.

The ideal candidate will have:
  • At least three years of relevant experiencewriting, reporting and source-building in sports, although we are open to new,motivated, talented college graduates.
  • Comfort talking in front of a microphone orcamera in various capacities
  • Adaptability and versatility for feature storiesas they emerge
  • Comfort working with digital audience metrics
  • An upbeat approach to growing The World-Herald'sreach and strengthening its engagement with subscribers
  • A relentless desire to innovate, experiment, andhelp chart the newsroom's next phase of digital growthIf you're an innovator with a hunger to learn, grow, andperform in one of the best sports markets in the country, this job might be foryou.
