This full time, benefit eligible position would report directly to the managing editor. Primary functions include gathering news and information for digital and print news products with a focus on local coverage in a timely manner. Producing local news content along multiple formats including shooting photos and video with most stories. Producing and assisting with daily breaking news coverage as well as in-depth work and special projects. Responsible for planning and adhering to a weekly news budget. Expected to cultivate sources, use public records and documents to provide fair and accurate coverage beyond news releases, press conferences and public meetings. This is a beat reporter position with overlap into general news assignment. As such, the ideal candidate will develop local news content via tips, sources and direct assignment in the areas of news, features, education and business.
Minimum Qualifications:
Knowledge of AP Style Strong grammatical skills, with demonstrated ability to edit and self-edit. Ability to work under tight deadlines and produce clean, clear and concise copy. Bachelor's degree in Journalism or English and at least one to three years experience as a reporter for daily or weekly news organization is preferred. Recent college graduates with desire to learn on the job are encouraged to apply. Must have reliable automobile and smartphone, Must be licensed driver and carry appropriate auto insurance. Available to work nights and weekends as needed.' '
