Job Description

Job Overview The Sandusky Register's affiliated newspaper, the Norwalk Reflector, is seeking a new full-time general assignment reporter. The candidate hired for the position will work daily with an editor and will be expected to produce several news stories each day. The ideal candidate should have an independent mindset and be a self-starter, as the newspaper's primary reporter for covering news first and foremost in Norwalk, Ohio, and the greater county region. They can take pride in being one of the few active local journalists in the area and, via their work, be able to truly make an impact on the lives of readers and residents at large. The ideal candidate should have reliable transportation and be comfortable traveling to cover events. They should be comfortable working on-site at various locations and at the newspaper's Sandusky, Ohio-based office. Some work from home is permissible. The work schedule should conform to a 9 am to 5 pm Monday-Friday workday, but there is room for flexibility. Reporters must also occasionally work late shifts and on weekends. Situated in Huron County, Ohio, Norwalk is known for its quaint yet vibrant uptown district, its status as the birthplace of American football legend Paul Brown and its deep roots in the transportation industry. Responsibilities The reporter's responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Sourcing news stories Reporting Taking photos Writing articles Sharing news content on social media Skills A good grasp of news writing/AP style A strong sense of curiosity and the need to tell stories Proficiency in photography and videography to produce visual content that enhances storytelling Experience in video production, editing, and social media management to maximize story reach across platforms is a plus Excellent communication skills for interviews, live reporting and team collaboration Ability to write compelling copy that captures audience interest while maintaining journalistic standards Those with interest or questions may contact community editor Brandon Addeo at brandonaddeo@sanduskyregister.com.
